Mick Blue Races to NASA Championship in Bad Dragon BMW

LOS ANGELES — Mick Blue returned to the track where his racing career started this past weekend and became a champion for the first time. The three-time AVN Male Performer of the Year from Austria captured the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) TT6 championship in his No. 76 Bad Dragon BMW 325i with a lap time at 1 minute, 49.112 seconds around the WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey County, Calif. “It’s a very special and sentimental track for me because it’s the first racetrack I’ve driven a race car on in 2016,” Blue told AVN Tuesday. “It is one of my favorite, if not my favorite track to drive on. “It’s like a roller coaster in a race car with a lot of elevation changes and quite fast corners. The tricky part is not to hit the walls.” Reaching speeds of more than 110 mph around the iconic 2.2 mile-long road course, Blue had the Bad Dragon car flying during the second session on Saturday, posting a time that held up through the remaining three sessions. Blue was more than eight tenths of a second faster than the second-place finisher. “It means the world to me to be honest,” said Blue, who is one of the most prolific performers in the world, averaging 25 scenes a month in addition to producing and directing. “It’s like winning the AVN Male Performer of the Year award. There are so many great talents out there who wish to win this one time in their life and it’s the same for all the racers here in the United States. “They wish to be national champion one time and most of them will never reach it. And now I can put this down as a checkmark that I’ve done it.” In addition to the TT6 triumph, Blue competed in three other classes during the busy race weekend in central California, placing P4 in the ST6 race and P10 in the Spec E30 class race—a remarkable feat considering he started the race in P30 and had to navigate rainy track conditions. Because of his impressive driving on Sunday, Blue was honored with the Hard Charger award for most positions gained in the race. He also was the highest finisher from the Southern California region. “I was on the right tires and luckily very confident in the rain maybe because of my Austrian heritage and I moved 20 spots forward,” Blue told AVN, adding it was “one of the best races I’ve ever done.” “I was super proud of that because it was entertaining and super difficult in the wet. There was a lot of passing. It’s literally like being on fire for 45 minutes trying to keep the car on the track. “It was raining enough that the track was completely wet and there was a lot of spray on the car and we were using windshield wipers.” Blue had to start from P30 because another car crashed into his on Turn 2 of the qualifying race on Saturday after he parked on the apex to avoid another incident. Meanwhile on Monday Blue finished P3 in the NASA WERC Endurance Championship along with two other drivers in the No. 62 Black Swan Research BMW 325i E30 car. Blue’s team—which started in P1 with him as the qualifying driver—raced for 6 hours, 30 minutes—and he ended up driving for about four of those hours, completing 130 laps. Blue gave a shoutout to Bad Dragon for helping him have the best race weekend of his career. “A huge thank you to Bad Dragon because they were the main reason why I made it out there to the nationals as being my main sponsor for the racing season,” he said. “It was absolutely a fantastic event and weekend.” The veteran stud said he enjoyed his first-ever champagne-drenched podium celebration. “There were a lot of people on track that took pictures of the Bad Dragon race car,” Mick noted. “There was a lot of recognition and a lot of a fans gave me quite a few thumbs up. People knew what the brand was. “I’m just happy that I was able to return the favor and bring in the results and the exposure and also for the live streams. I was fortunate and lucky to be able to give them exciting racing and because of that exciting racing I had a good amount of screen time, which was great for the sponsor.”
