Jane Wilde Interviewed by Daily Beast |
Jane Wilde, an adult film star with more than 600 scenes under her belt, is speaking out about her early experiences in the industry as a teenager in a new Daily Beast article, âA Sex Trafficking Survivor Is Turning Her Trauma Into Porn.â In the piece, she describes her first foray into the business through a Craigslist ad with the promise of $2,000 a week working as a webcam performer under the tutelage of a shadowy âmentorâ who offered to âchannel her talent and monetize her assets.â âI was manipulated, and I guess you could say abused by a man in his thirties and groomed to do sex work, being fed a bunch of lies and manipulative information⦠I consider myself to be a trafficking survivor,â she clarifies, adding that this man, over time, showed his true colors as a âverbally abusive and a very scary person.â Wilde explains that âit was all online, but I would meet up with this person periodically because he controlled my moneyâthe money I earned doing webcam would go directly to him, and he would pay me cash. I have no idea if I was being paid the right amount. This guy, I really trusted him, and I felt like he had the best of intentions for me. But then I realized how wrong I was.” After finally breaking away from his oppressive control after months of threats, Wilde started shooting adult films; after years of steady success, she realized that âI need to go back and do something for myself which is to actually deal with the trauma of the situation.â Enter STARS, a new Adult Time Original Film (out September 28 on AdultTime.com) created in collaboration with award-winning filmmaker Bree Mills. âI havenât talked about this openly in detail with everything on the table ever. Thatâs why I wanted to turn it into a movie, to art.â âWith this film, I donât want to just reach fans of pornography. I want to reach as many people as possible for them to fully understand the situation. So many people think that porn is trafficking, and they donât understand the nuances⦠by definition, I am a victim of trafficking, abuse, whatever you want to call it. I want to frame [my story] as a tale of tragedy that ends in triumph. Porn has given me a lot in life that is positive. It gave me structure and direction.â Wilde further affirms that âthe issue is not the sex in sex work, but how a society that marginalizes and criminalizes it creates this environment where the real exploitation happens,â adding that âporn gave me a way of making a name for myself and a platform to use for the rest of my life. It also gave me a community. My experience is more common than people think.” To read the article in full, head to The Daily Beast.
