Avery Jane on Retailing, Dancing & Going Hardcore

A version of this feature appears in the August issue of AVN magazine. LOS ANGELES — Avery Jane knows her way around adult entertainment a lot better than most performers who are new to professional porn. The native of Louisiana sold sex toys, DVDs, lingerie and more at Hustler Hollywood on the famed Sunset Strip, where she worked her way up to manager prior to making her industry debut. She remembers one night in October 2019, when an adult star named Angela White came to the store for a meet-and-greet, bringing out several industry luminaries. A few of them could not help but notice Avery’s striking look. “I had people say to me, ‘You’re so pretty, do you do porn?’” Avery recalls. She replied politely, “No, I just work here. I’m not in porn." “Then literally a couple months later I started doing porn,” she adds with a laugh. “It was like right before I made my first video. I was still on the fence about the whole family thing. It took me a little while to build up to it and finally I said, ‘Fuck it, I pay my own bills.’” Avery Jane eased into hardcore, creating naughty clips for platforms such as ManyVids before she signed with OC Modeling in June with the intention of taking the next step in her career. “Now I feel like I’m officially a porn star,” Avery says. “It’s still really hard for me to say. I have a little bit of impostor syndrome there, so I’m still getting used to that.” But the self-styled “Fuck Machine”—her current tongue-in-cheek Twitter title—is anything but an impostor, not with big scenes about to drop with Reality Kings opposite Jax Slayher, PervCity with Ramon Nomar and a wild encounter for Dogfart’s Gloryhole Initiations. Avery tells AVN she wants to work with “as many studio as possible that I personally align with.” “I want to focus more on the reputable companies and brands,” she says. “I want to hit Brazzers and the Mindgeek segment, BangBros… “I did AnalOnly recently. My niche is anal, so any and all sites that focus on anal, double penetration, hardcore stuff. That’s my preference.” She says a shoot for Kink also would be welcomed. “I want to do more intense BDSM scenes. I used to do it a lot in my personal life,” she says. “I want to do it in a safe, professional environment and see it on camera.” Avery Jane says the no-holes-barred LegalPorno in Europe is in her sights, too. “I want to be a household brand,” she continues. “I want my name to be just like Angela White or Adriana Chechik. I’m trying to get there.” She says her Twitter names are just “a running joke.” Before naming herself Avery Jane “The Fuck Machine”—adding the trademark symbol after it, no less—she was “The Cum Collector.” “I’m very aggressive and playful online and in real life I can be kind of shy and quiet and timid at first,” Avery admits. But don’t let that shyness fool you, she adds. She can go from 0 to “filthy backdoor whore” in under 10 seconds. “People think I’m this cute, adorable little girl and I pop out there with this crazy hardcore content. I’m like, ‘What kind of nasty shit we gettin’ into today?’ Plus I do look younger than I am and I like playing off of that. “I’m 5-foot-1 but people say I have 7-feet tall energy.” She’s a regular on Evolved Fights and also recently performed with King Noire for her subscription sites. At press time Jane estimates she had shot 114 self-produced scenes since late 2019. Jane says she loved working at Hustler Hollywood—she had been there since 2018—even if “things got a little weird toward the end.” “I loved the products that we sold. I loved the training they provided us,” Avery says. “We would meet with the lube companies and with the toy companies and I liked that I was learning a lot. I realized a lot of the general public doesn’t really have good, proper sex education. "I was a sales associate, providing people with their first contact with any sex education. And my boss was spectacular. My boss at Hustler was the first openly trans manager of a Hustler store, so I was working under somebody who was revolutionizing the company. That was really really neat.” What also makes for some surreal moments now is how she used to sell the Fleshlights and dick molds of performers she now counts as friends. “Now it’s really neat that I get to hang out with and befriend these people,” Avery says. “I’m like, ‘I used to sell your dick molds.’” She says Rob Piper and Ana Foxxx are just two adult stars whom she knows on a personal level now after selling plenty of their branded toys. Before becoming a performer, Jane also worked as a stripper and did live BDSM performances at sex clubs before landing the gig at Hustler Hollywood. “I was working full time 40 hours a week and also on the side making content and selling content on my own platforms,” Avery says. “I built a name, built a brand and built an online presence and after a few months of me doing that, then the pandemic hit. “I lost my job for a little while, so I was just doing porn. Eventually stuff started to open back up. I went back to work and remember thinking it was hyper stressful. I didn’t know what was going on, I didn’t know what Covid was. I was really stressed out.” She says during those early stages of the pandemic there were so many unknowns and sometimes there would be disagreements with customers when trying to enforce the store’s mask rules, not to mention dealing with sex toy returns. After a plumbing problem at the store resulted in her cleaning the floor with paper towels, she realized it was time to go. “That was the final straw. I was thinking I’m ready to do porn full time,” she says. But she left on good terms with her boss last fall. In fact, they even sat down and weighed the pros and cons, crunching the numbers of her committing to adult full time. Their calculations showed that if she re-dedicated the 40 hours a week she was clocking at the store to creating her own content that she could triple her income. “So I gave my two weeks notice, jumped into porn and started making content full time,” Avery says. “I didn’t really consider myself a porn star. I considered myself a content creator. I would  create my own content, but eventually companies started to look at me. The very first company to book me was Ariel X with Evolved Fights.” Avery Jane was a late replacement in Las Vegas for her initial fight booking and “I ended up having the best time.” “I didn’t know I needed sex wrestling in my life and it was so fun,” she says. Avery says her body has undergone a transformation since she’s been in porn full time; when she first started she was about 60 pounds heavier. “I was a little bit of a bigger girl and I lost a good bit of weight,” she says, adding she got a boob job earlier this year, too. After her recovery she started setting up photoshoots, submitted her photos to several agencies and soon received a call from Sandra McCarthy at OC Modeling. Avery says she spent January getting over Covid, and then got her new boobs at the end of March. Her L.A. journey began in June 2013, when she moved to the City of Angels with her mom after trying one year of college at Louisiana State. “I always wanted to live in L.A. I used to be a dancer—ballet, jazz and hip-hop—and the dance industry is big out here in L.A,” Avery says. She participated in dance classes for a while but realized how expensive it was to live in L.A. and needed a job. So Avery took waitressing jobs at places such as Olive Garden, P.F. Changs and Cheesecake Factory. She also worked at another sex store when she was 21—Cupid’s Closet, near the L.A. International Airport. “That was my first entrance into the adult world ever,” Avery says. “I went there one day to buy my first vibrator and I remember just being amazed by the store. I had never been in an adult store before that.” She asked the manager what the qualifications were to work there—and it turns out he was hiring. “So I worked there for a few months and I learned a lot,” Avery recalls. “It was my intro into everything adult. It was right around the time when Fifty Shades hit and they sent me and some of the other employees to a BDSM 101 class at the Stockroom.” That outing piqued her interest in the lifestyle. “I said I want to go dungeons and get spanked,” she jokes. Through her networking, she started exploring the BDSM scene in L.A., attending various sex parties. “I jumped into it, the whole nine yards,” Avery says. “Then I did stripping. I’ve done almost every aspect of the adult business and I’m grateful for that… But I always wanted to do porn. I’ve always been curious about it even when I was younger. “But I was 25-26 years old before I jumped into porn, so I paced myself out and allowed myself time to grow up and just to kind of be more mentally prepared. I’m pleased with the way I paced it out.” Photography by Scott Wallach/OC Modeling (1-4) & Miles Long (5 & 6)
