Biphoria.com: Targeting the Underserved Bisexual Market

“Biphoria is focused strictly on bisexual content,” Powers told YNOT. “It was and is one of the few studios that actually focuses on this market that, for the most part, has been ignored by the gay and straight (hetero) production companies. As a result, Biphoria helps fill an extremely underserved niche.”

Welcome to ‘Bi 101′

Biphoria’s content portrays casual introductions to gay sex for inexperienced males, often by way of a female participant who then plays a secondary role in the fun. This is in line with Biphoria’s target consumers, who are bi-curious men and other viewers seeking something different.

“I approach Biphoria’s content as ‘Bi 101′,” said Powers. “It’s designed in a way that is very friendly and nonthreatening for the first timer experiencing bisexual encounters. It’s generally light-hearted and fun. In the beginning, it was very much done in a swinger type motif.”

“I often approach the storylines with a first-time experience as part of the story line,” he added. “We are still in the infant stages of the bi market so I think this is still a desirable fantasy for a good chunk of bi porn consumers. We also do a lot of swinger scenarios or old-time hookups and secret gay encounters from the past coming back into one’s married life.”

Finding Talent Can Be Tough

Biphoria straddles the line between straight and gay male sex. As a result, “bi productions are by far the hardest to book as they occupy this middle ground between the two porn worlds,” said Powers. “Straight is the mainstream and it is generally verboten for ‘straight’ males to work in gay, not to mention the shunning of the women who work with the gay men. Meanwhile, gay viewers audience want to keep their gay men ‘pure’ and not to mix with women.”

To cope with these barriers, “I search out fluid and pansexual actors,” Powers said. “I used to mostly find men (and women) open to bisexual productions from my work in the transgender productions. But lately things have been really opening up — especially when it comes to the women, most of whom absolutely love shooting with bisexual men.”

Still, obstacles to finding actors for bi porn remain. “You still have the straight agents trying to bar their talent from doing it,” noted Powers. “But since so many are doing it anyway in their private life and on OnlyFans,com, it’s starting to open the door.”

He has observed one interesting aspect of bi porn: Color doesn’t matter among the actors. “In the straight porn world, it’s all about IR (interracial) and how white girls hold out for more money to work with black performers,” Powers said. “But on the bi production side nobody has ever asked or cared about what color someone is. Biphoria has been color blind from Day One.”

Coping With COVID and Looking Ahead

Biphoria.com launched in May 2020, when COVID-19 was taking hold of the world. Like other content producers, Jim Powers halted production until it seemed safe to resume. But even then, “the orgies were put on hold as the number of talent in scenes and on set had to be restricted.”

As restrictions start to ease, the day will come when the orgies may resume. (And yes, I did enjoy writing that last line.) As for the future?

“My plans are to keep making great movies for Biphoria and really expand the talent pool,” said Powers. “I would love to see some of the bigger name males start doing it like they have begun to do in the trans market. The porn women are already leading the way.”

“As far as stories, go, I would love to expand the productions, with more features and more fantasy concepts,” he continued. “I would love to do have bigger productions and more days to shoot, and to somehow make a real story out of the skits we do currently.”

In the meantime, bi-curious males will have to be content with attending online Bi 101 classes at Biphoria.com. The good news is, one year later, attendance – along with other things – is up!
