Countess Diamond Discusses 'Making it Big' on AVN Stars

LOS ANGELES—Britain’s Countess Diamond made the jump to AVN Stars from another site just eight months ago, and in that short time span she has leaped into the top tier of personalities on the platform. On Tuesday, in a discussion that she hosted on the suddenly popular audio-chat app Clubhouse, Diamond shared how she did it, and imparted her advice to fellow sex workers looking to make a similar move. “I wanted to bring everyone that I could together, and tell everybody the journey that I was on, and how that compares to the journey that I’m now on, on AVN,” Diamond said, on the panel titled “OnlyFans to AVN Stars. Migrating, Marketing & Making it Big.” Diamond was clear that her previous “journey” was not a bad one on the competing site. “I don’t really like talking numbers, but I was earning comfortably," she said.  She still decided to make the jump, confessing that the process — particularly in the middle of a pandemic — was “really scary.” But was her business model and her willingness to put in the work of reaching out to her subscribers that, she said, made the process a successful one. “My model works on the fact that I have a higher subscription price, and the pricing model is based on, you get a lot for your money,” she explained. “It’s not like, you jump in, get a quick wank and you go. This is a lifestyle place where you stay and you grow yourself as a submissive. That’s my role. It’s dominant. So it was kind of hard to make the decision. These people are spending a lot of money. They want to stay somewhere where they’re comfortable.” Her solution — to message all of her subscribers, clearly explaining her reasons for the move to AVN Stars. “I wrote a blog on it, so it was really clear that these are the reasons. This is what I believe is right and wrong for my business. And kind of my mental health as well.” When she made the move to AVN Stars she also informed her followers that she was raising her subscription price on the new platform. “Not only did I jump off the cliff, I jumped off the cliff with more baggage than I needed to.”  And yet, even with the extra baggage, she landed safely. Though she says she lost about 20 percent of her subscribers in the transition, “in actual fact, I’ve gained in the long run,” she says, adding, “if I had to do it again, I would absolutely do it again. It was the best decision to make.” While she cautioned that, though she advises other sex workers to make the jump to AVN Stars, she does not advise them to “drop everything and run over to this site.” Making the transition takes planning. “I’m not saying jump off the edge of a cliff like I did, but there is definitely scope for this to become something bigger in the future. I still have my OnlyFans running. I still make a fair bit from it." Perhaps her strongest piece of advice for sex workers on AVN Stars, or even on competing sites, however was simply to value their own work — and price it accordingly. In fact, she advocates not even mentioning price up front.  “Increase the value of the products that you’re offering, then you don’t have to discount. Because when you even mention the price, you give them a reason to refuse,” Diamond told her Clubhouse audience. “Every time you put out that direct discount, you kind of go, ‘Come on! Over here! Over here!’ When really you should just be saying, “Come in. Walk through the door.’ Fight for your content! Increase the value of what you’re offering, before you chop the price.” Photo by @hear_and_yield
