Fad Alert: Porno-Branded Zoom Backgrounds

Back in April (April?!), Mashable reported that Kink.com had shared a collection of branded, custom Zoom backgrounds from various recognizable sets.

“For those of you who feel mandatory lockdown isn’t enough restraint, Kink has put together custom Zoom backgrounds to help you dominate your virtual boardrooms,” they wrote on their blog. “Join a conference call from the Upper Floor! Call your grandma from the padded cell. Beam up to a Zoom orgy from our urinals. Swap out that suburban closet for our fetish-filled bondage wall — the world will never know!”

Kink’s designers had created backdrops of their Hogtied room, Ultimate Surrender wrestling ring, a padded cell, a bondage wall and a bank of branded urinals, among others.

Clever! Cheeky! Kinky!

“Now that our shelter-in-place order has been extended, we want to help everyone have a little kinky fun,” Mashable reported Alison Boden, CEO of Kink.com, stating. “Whether you’re logging into a board meeting or a date, there’s no mystique in your dirty laundry, open closet or saggy sofa. Kink’s always helped people live out their fantasies — and we need that now more than ever.”

Recently, xHamster also jumped in on the custom Zoom background fun. They wrote in a press release:

With record-high unemployment, the adult industry is seeing thousands of new amateur stars and cam models sign-up for accounts to help them pay the bills each week. To help deal with the influx, xHamster is releasing over two dozen custom Zoom backgrounds to help newcomers experiment with the industry before taking the plunge. The new Zoom backgrounds include cameras and casting couches, live cam backgrounds and tubesite templates, leather gear and gloryholes.

“While it’s more mainstream than ever to be a cam or premium star, it’s not a step to be taken lightly,” said Alex Hawkins, Vice President of xHamster. “Your family, friends, and co-workers will all eventually find out. We created a line of custom Zoom backgrounds to help would-be models see how they’d look on a tube or cam site. The backgrounds are a fun way to try it out, or see what they’re friends, partner or family reaction would be … before they hit upload!”

xHamster is releasing both SFW and NSFW versions of its backgrounds. Zoom has promised to crackdown on nudity, but Hawkins is not concerned. “Unless they’re going to hire spies and install peepholes, it’s a stunt. The technology is not there.”
