“Scrubhub” Proves that People in Quarantine Will Watch Anything

Skeptical as many in the adult industry are of Pornhub, as the tube site has decimated much of the industry over the past decade, they keep providing us with valuable information about consumer interests. Their Pornhub Insights posts are chock-full of data about porn fans’ viewing habits, which, though sometimes silly, are useful nonetheless. Now, now they’ve partnered with two LA-based artists to bring us fascinating new data: People are so bored while sheltering in place that they’ll watch literally anything with a sexy title.

The proof comes in the form of Scrubhub.tv, a new website that combines Pornhub’s design, user interface, thirst-trap naming conventions, and even niche categories like BDSM, Bear, and feet…with videos of people (and sometimes puppets) washing their hands. It’s not that sexy to anyone who doesn’t have a fetish for hand sanitizing, but Pornhub is just proving to us that consumers in quarantine will watch literally anything with a sexy title. Content creators—take note!

“Over the past few weeks, the one thing that has been repeated by literally everyone—politicians, scientists, celebrities and athletes—has been the importance of washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water to protect against this virus,” said Pornhub VP Corey Price In a press release on Pornhub’s involvement with Scrubhub. “Sometimes lighthearted content can be cathartic and help foster a sense of social cohesion.”

The artists behind the project, Ani Acopian and Suzy Shinn, who also created parody website Amazon Dating, said, “We wanted to take something as mundane as washing your hands and make it entertaining in the only way we know how (by taking a joke way too far).”

And “too far” may be just the descriptor for Scrubhub, which features dozens of videos with titles like: “THICK ANAL HUNK GOES SLOW AND DEEP IN HIS AFTERNOON QUICKIE – HANDS TO SINK” and “*MILF ALERT* THIS HOT MOM IS READY TO TURN THE HOT HOT HEAT ON!!!!!!” 

“Uploads so far have been from Pornhub Brand Ambassador Asa Akira, as well as pornstars Angela White and Austin Wolf, and more,” reported HappyMag.com. But it’s not just for porn stars—just like on Pornhub, amateur hand washing videos can be uploaded by anyone. But, unlike on Pornhub, there is an actual approval process before those videos go live.

Proceeds from Scrubhub are going to Invisible Hands, a volunteer organisation providing food and essentials to in New York and New Jersey, and Frontline Foods, which supplies meals to healthcare workers in Los Angeles. 

All in all Scrubhub is good clean fun. For those who have now watched so much porn during  lockdown that they’re bored with it, Scrubhub is a fun reminder that social distancing and hand washing are still deeply important, even if they’re sick of staying home. And for those in the adult biz, it’s a reminder that a hot title like “THE BABYSITTER LIKES TO GO FROM FILTHY TO FRESH WHILE EVERYONE’S ASLEEP” will get results no matter what.
