A Sultrier Shade of Pale: Evelyn Claire

Evelyn Claire is featured in the September issue of AVN magazine. Click here to see the digital edition. Photos by Rick Garcia.  The most common remark people make to Evelyn Claire on sets, she bemoans, is: “You’re really white. You’re really pale.” In her smirky but delicate Pacific Northwest timbre, she continues, “I swear to god, every single time I walk on set. It’s getting ridiculous.” Be that as it may, her milky complexion made her a natural fit for Greg Lansky’s Blacked imprint, and the triple-X impresario recruited her roughly two years ago to shoot her first porn scenes for both Blacked and sister label Vixen. At the time, Claire was working as a cam model on Chaturbate and other sites, something she continues to do, but as soon as her debut adult video work hit, people sat up and took notice—including reigning AVN Director of the Year Kayden Kross, who cast her in the offbeat trailer park quasi-drama Trashy Love Story for her Trenchcoatx banner. Therein, Claire performed her very first girl/girl scene with 2017 AVN Best New Starlet Holly Hendrix, which went on to garner a Best Girl/Girl Sex Scene nomination at this year’s awards. Kross also directed Claire to 2019 AVN nominations for Best Boy/Girl Sex Scene (with Manuel Ferrara) and Best Solo/Tease Performance, both in Trenchcoatx title The Female of the Species. Still, Claire wasn’t sure how full-force she wanted to go into the studio porn world. “I had time to decide that I wanted to do it, that this was something I was really interested in,” she explains. “I would come to L.A. for like a week and shoot one scene maybe once every other month, and I felt like, damn, I want to do more … I could be doing way more.” During this year’s AVN Show, Claire continued conversations she’d begun the previous summer with mega-agent Mark Spiegler, who told her that if she moved to L.A. fulltime, he would represent her. So following the expo, “I was like, ‘I’m gonna do it. I’m pressing the button. Fuck it.’” Hence, she packed her bags, and as of April 13, “which is also my cammiversary,” joined the hallowed ranks of the Spiegler Girls. She saw the renowned Spiegler magic kick into effect immediately. “Within 24 hours, I had like six bookings, it was awesome,” she recounts. “Going from nothing to ‘holy shit, OK, I got some stuff to do.’” When she’s not busy shooting, Claire divides her time between being online—either camming or broadcasting on Twitch—and creating art … oftentimes doing both simultaneously. “On Twitch I like to do painting shows or art shows of just crafting something,” she says. As to how she developed her artistic talents, she imparts, “The only formal training I’ve ever had was I went to a community college while I was still in high school—I took color and design, and an oil painting class. I loved those classes. I’ve been self-taught though, I started really young, like a baby. I would draw really weird, complex shit that children shouldn’t draw. “I got really good in high school,” she continues. “So good that the alternative school I went to let me teach an art class. I just basically regurgitated what I was learning at college to the class. I want to do more art school, that would be cool, but I don’t believe you need a piece of paper to say that you’re an artist, I think you just gotta go make some art.” Eventually, Claire hopes to parlay her auteurist inclinations into directing. “I gotta do that,” she enthuses. “I want to design every little fucking thing about it. I want to make like a weird, surrealist set, where it’s just like, ‘What the fuck is going on?’ There’s room on the internet for that shit. So fuck it. It might not be what sells or what’s popular, but I’m gonna learn what sells and what’s popular from working for all these other companies.” The wheels are turning with this one, you can sense. And she has no intention of slowing those wheels down at any foreseeable point. Her life motto? “We’re running out of time.” Follow her on Instagram: @LuvEvelynClaire
