Substitute Teacher Who Shot Porn In Classroom May Face Charges

A high school in the small East Texas town of El Campo found itself embroiled in a scandal or sorts earlier this week, when police announced that a substitute teacher who had worked at El Campo High School for about three months had been summarily fired. Her offense? According to a report by Texas station KTRK, the sub teacher, whose name has not been made public, shot pornographic videos in a school classroom—and uploaded them to what the report described as “a public porn site.” But after the unnamed teacher’s dismissal, police said that no charges would be brought against her, because the only applicable charge would be “public lewdness,” and that charge would not apply because she performed in the videos behind a closed door and was not seen by anyone as she created the series of about a dozen videos. She also, apparently, never fully removes her clothes in the videos, in which she appears alone. “The reason that they did not find evidence was because the suspect had closed the door and had clothes on and was not reckless about their conduct so that someone else could see them or be offended by it,” Stanphill said, according to The Victoria Advocate newspaper.  El Campo Police Chief Terry Stanphill also said that there was no evidence that any children were exposed to the substitute teacher’s actions in creating the videos, but according to a report by KAVU TV, students have watched the videos online. As a result, the El Campo school board is now saying it will press charges against the teacher. But for what?  The school board seems unsure. In a statement released on Wednesday, the board said it was consulting legal counsel, and was “pursuing this incident to the extent allowable by law.”  But the police chief said that after an investigation, “we can’t find a law that she violated,” according to a Fort-Worth Star Telegram report.  Nonetheless, the El Campo community appears intent on seeing the woman criminally prosecuted — for something.  “If the public in El Campo is fired up as they should be, they have the right to pressure their elected district attorney," a local criminal lawyer, Steve Shellist, told KTRK. “She committed a pretty serious crime that happens to only rise to the level of a misdemeanor.” Photo By Djmaschek / Wikimedia Commons
