Playboy Redesigns Classic ‘Bunny Ears’ to Mark LGBTQ Pride Month

The classic Playboy Bunny “ears” are getting a redesign—or, to be specific, seven redesigns—from a septet of top LGBTQ artists. The new, colorful bunny ears go on sale at Playboyshop.com in June, to commemorate LGBTQ Pride month. But the bunny ears are not merely a way to cash in on LGBTQ Pride. They are designed to call attention to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that runs suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ youth and is campaigning in favor of laws to ban so-called “conversion therapy” in all 50 states. According to a description by the Human Rights Coalition, “conversion therapy” falsely claims to “change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Such practices have been rejected by every mainstream medical and mental health organization for decades, but due to continuing discrimination and societal bias against LGBTQ people, some practitioners continue to conduct conversion therapy. Minors are especially vulnerable, and conversion therapy can lead to depression, anxiety, drug use, homelessness, and suicide.” The “Pride is Good” ears were redesigned by artists Seth Bogar (whose contribution is pictured above), Winston Ellion, Sarah Maxwell, Nina Palomba, C. Finley, Loveis Weiss and Favianna Rodriguez. The artists also designed T-shirts to accompany the ears, further displaying their artwork in support of the Trevor Project. The ears go for $40 per pair online, and will also be available at a pop-up shop in New York during WorldPride, from June 19 to June 23. Photo by PlayboyShop.com
