So how do you go about upping your verbal game? First thing is remembering that authenticity is the foundation to this all. So when you are slipping into a sexy mental scene, regardless if it is really your bag or not, try to find something about the situation that makes you feel sexy. One way is to take in how sexy the listener/viewer will feel while watching you. Knowing that you are so tantalizing in that moment that they desire you can often be enough to get our hearts racing. Some performers find it easier to go into their own mental fantasy and imagine something totally different happening. Be careful with this when you have to speak, though, as it can come across as if you are distracted. Ever had someone whisper up close in your ear? The type of libido taunting that sends shivers from your neck down your back? When there is a microphone involved, do tests to see what the playback sounds like. How close and at what volume can you get to the camera to cause that sensual tickle sensation? Once you master this, remember that you can’t just continuously do this, but work it into a routine to help the listener really get more on edge when watching your scene. In particularly intense moments of teasing, crank up that voice and really make the listener feel as if they are right next to you ... or rather that you are right next to them. Still at a loss about what to say? Describe what is going on around you! How does the sheet feel underneath your bottom, how does the cold wall contrast to that warm body rubbing next to you? Ask questions about what you may do next and how it will feel! Detail the feelings you anticipate or hope the listener will have when they are partaking in the erotic situation you have found yourself in. Most of all, make use of the “dead air.” Unlike other forms of entertainment, you do not have to speak fast. Those little pauses can add intensity to the words you do choose to say. While you do want to increase the vocabulary count of the piece of content being created, do not feel that you have to fill every moment with words. Speaking of pacing; how do you know if your pace is just right? Try to keep the pace of what you are saying in line with the scene or music (if present during filming). You do not want pounding breathy moans and quick snippy words in a sensual situation that is slower paced. Likewise, you do not want a ton of dead air and no sound during a faster scene. The best indicator, if it is a live interaction (phone sex, cam to cam), would your customer. If they are really going at it, you will want to match their intensity. You can slow them down after you match them and pace out the interaction, but in order to do so you need to be talking about on speed with their breathing. They will naturally slow down to follow you after you have gotten on their level. For interactions that are not live, such as a porn shoot or prerecording, really think about the mood you want to give off. If it is a sensual style, then slower and building would be best. For more action-packed scenes, then of course loud and wild will be expected. If your vocals do not match the feel for the scene, it can really kill the mojo for all involved. Luckily, though, this is rarely a problem for most. Few people tend to get too hyped in a mild pace or too mellow in a scene that calls for some major energy. It can help to listen to the appropriate style of music before you record, or put on some live music to set the mood just right. Above all else, just breathe and relax. Your voice sounds just fine, you are smart and you have the ability to make the scene far more sensual than you give yourself credit for. Remember to find your own personal sexy voice, practice it, toy with your volume, set your mood right and watch your pacing. It may seem like a lot, but much of it can be practiced at the exact same time. All it takes is the confidence to explore your erotic vocalization and you will find that you have been a master of it all along.
