Rogue ‘Coming Soon’ Sign Baffles Jasper Residents

Either some trickster tacked up a sign when no one was looking, or there’s an interesting hole in the Jasper, GA business license acquisition process.

According to a report from Lonnie Adams via Pickens.FetchYourNews, the city of Jasper has *finally* addressed the presence of mysterious posted sign that reads “Adult Entertainment, Coming Soon!”

The sign appeared on The Shops of Jasper marquee and is causing a great deal of confusion in the area.

Adams reported that, according to Jasper City Manager Brandon Douglas, the city has no application or permitting on file for an adult entertainment business or signage at this location. Douglas also stated that The Shops of Jasper property owner has “no intent to pursue this kind of business.”

Via Adams’ report, the City has reached out to the property owner about the sign — and it will most assuredly be coming down. As such, no fine or official action is being taken at this time, but Douglas did state that the city will be following up with the property owner if the sign does not come down.

Questions abound, mainly: Where the heck did the sign then come from?! Also, how long does the property owner have to remove the sign before action is taken?

Jasper apparently does have areas zoned for the possibility of adult-related businesses. Said zoning, however, does not include this particular center. Bummer because, I mean, maybe the Escape Evade Adventure Zone could get some overflow role play business out of a neighbors-type partnership? Alas.

Jasper, GA located north of Atlanta.

Douglas reportedly said adult businesses in Jasper are restricted to industrial areas and can only get conditional use permits. “This means that if a business like this would be created, it would have to go through zoning and come before the Mayor and City Council for approval,” Adams wrote.

Maybe this sign was posted by some jokester, which — not a funny joke, dude — points to sustained wider social stigma about adult entertainment-related business overall. So shocking and funny! So clever, your sign about the specter of the pornos! Or, maybe the sign was posted by some ambitious person before they realized how difficult it is to even open an adult-related business in today’s world, much less be successful.
