School Gives OK to Student Paper Profile of Aspiring Porn Star

Last week, AVN.com reported on an apparent attempt to censor an article to be published in a Stockton, California, high school newspaper, because the student-written piece was a profile of an 18-year-old student at Bear Creek High School who is looking to become a professional porn performer. But after threatening to fire the student paper’s faculty adviser over the school district’s demand to pre-screen the article—penned by student reporter Bailey Kirkeby—for “obscenity,” the Lodi Unified School District on Thursday backed down and will allow Kirkeby’s article to go to print on Friday, according to a report by the local news site Recordnet.com. But the school district did not seem happy about its own decision. The district and the paper’s adviser, Kathi Duffel, had earlier reached an agreement to allow a lawyer not affiliated with the school district to review the article for any legal issues. That lawyer, Matthew Cate, “determined that the article did not violate any education codes,” according to the Recordnet report. But the school district said that while it would abide by its agreement, it disagreed with “some aspects” of his report. “Because the district has been denied an opportunity to preview the article, the district does not endorse it,” school district officials said in a statement.  Kirkeby told the San Francisco Chronicle that her article “doesn’t really delve into sex at all,” adding that it focuses on the 18-year-old aspiring porn star, Caitlin Fink, “as a person.” Fink herself told the Chronicle that she agreed to be profiled in order to stop rumors about her at the school. She confirms in the article that she has posted “nude videos” on Snapchat and PornHub and done nude modeling work, according to the Chronicle report. “People see the porn world as taboo,” Fink said in the Chronicle interview. “But I see it as a natural thing.
