Amid Renewed ‘Pop Shot’ Debate, Survey Reveals Ejaculation Facts

A new debate over whether the so-called “pop shot” or “money shot” should continue to have a place in porn spilled into the online pages of The Daily Beast this week, in which the magazine’s frequent adult industry correspondent, Aurora Snow, proposed the thesis, “As the porn market has expanded from DVDs to online clips, the traditional money shot might be losing relevance.” The debate was sparked largely by a Twitter post from porn director Mike Quasar, who said last week, “Dear porn editors: Please edit out the part where the man jerks off for 45 minutes to ejaculate on a woman's face. Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Everyone who watches porn.” "Has the time come to rethink the old standard and retire the money shot?” Snow asked—though she quoted at least one female performer who is not yet ready to abandon the trope, in which the end of a scene is signaled by the male performer ejaculating on his partner, often on her face. But the familiar porn standard deviates so dramatically from real-world sexual practices that Snow cites sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, who has said, on her own Twitter account, “Explaining to teens that ‘facials’ are not the norm is as important as telling them how babies are born.” In fact, a statistical survey—perhaps the only comprehensive study of preferred ejaculatory targets—conducted last year by the site Bad Girls Bible showed that out the 740 respondents to the survey (which included both men and women) only 16 percent listed “the face” as the location on the female body where they had most recently aimed their ejaculate. Asked which part of the female body where men “sometimes” or “often” finish off their sexual act, an overwhelming 92 percent said “in her vagina”—even though about 33 percent admitted using no form of birth control, and more than half, 54 percent, saying that they used a form of contraception that was not a condom. But 74 percent also listed “on her body” on the location they would “sometimes” or “often” ejaculate. As for Dr. Ruth’s contention that the facial is “not the norm,” the survey’s results appear to confirm the noted sex counselor’s claim—though ejaculating on a woman’s face also does not exactly appear to be a real-life rarity, either. About 40 percent said they had never participated in a facial, either on the receiving or administering end. Only about 25 percent said they take part in facials “sometimes” or “often.” The survey also indicated who is most likely to take part in sex culminating in external ejaculation, on the body or face, with people who had sex within the previous seven days more than twice as likely to say they took part in external ejaculation acts as people who had not had sex for at least four weeks. Individuals identifying as bisexual were also more than twice as likely as straight people to say that they took part in external ejaculations. Photo By Clipart-Library.com
