Op-Ed: Livia Choice on Why Not to Repress Cam Models' Emotions

Most employees aren't very fond of their bosses and neither their tasks. Although some tasks are impossible to eliminate, some practices are not. Thus, making their job much more enjoyable. According to Émile Durkeim in Rules of Sociological Method (1895), "social facts" are rules or norms that have been internalized and guide the actions and criticism towards behaviors that are considered acceptable or not to a society. In the camming industry it is no different. For instance, girls being stimulated to tease for free (meaning work for free) feel frustrated and undervalued. That's why "The New Camming Perspective" is such a game-changer for models, industry and members, consolidating itself as a scientific method of understanding camming based on building connections. One of authors who has inspired "The New Camming Perspective," Theodor W. Adorno, in Minima Moralia: Reflections From Damaged Life (1951) defends that our society usually defines as "inadequate behavior" what is just "free behavior." Related to this topic, Adorno explains that it is part of our contemporary process of civilization to turn all of us into "standardized people" with "standardized behaviors" (calm, well-behaved and unreflective) because this way our consumption (dreams, desires, and aspirations) will be easily predictable, controllable, and adaptable. This happens mostly because people are afraid of the judgment that others will have about their actions. It is expected to continue like that because no stimulus for reflection/individuality means no change in the cultural paradigm. As defined by Freud in The Future of an Illusion (1927), culture is an oppressive force to those who are not part of its values, and when people are able to incorporate these values, they tend to join in in this burden; therefore, perpectuating hostility against the divergent. Nevertheless, repressing emotions because of the fear of social judgment while keeping us "tamed" also prevents us from developing our true potential. For this reason, spreading "The New Camming Perspective" and its humane sociability aspect allows for a new praxis of less harmful relationships in this industry.  Standardized Behavior Control Practices x Permitting Further Development of Creative Mental Faculties Practices A good example of this control and the development of creative faculties can be found in Michael Jackson's life story. While his father was in charge, he was limited to the role his father wanted him to take—just another singer. However, he broke loose from his father's control and went on to do what he wanted, becoming the most sucessful pop star of the 20th century. Futhermore, he invented the music video with Thriller in the 80's. Related to the Camming Labor Market, the lack of freedom to demonstrate any emotion leads to a series of undesirable consequences such as: lack of loyalty, internal gossips, complaints to bosses, less satisfation and less productivity. Meanwhile, allowing emotions to be expressed could help foster a creative personality and lead to employees who are capable of making the right choices considering the medium and long-term results of their actions.  In other words, when you allow more emotional flexibility among your employees, you are actually stimulating them to become both more loyal and more productive for your company, as a consequence of greater personal satisfaction (quality of life) at work. "The New Camming Perspective" is here to solve some problems like the dissociation of the employees and their desire to do their job properly. The social facts that we have approached through a scientific method (communication and semiotics) show that the standardized people should not be cherished. Since cultural tamed people can not express their emotions and as a result become passive aggressive, this can be counter-productive to these people and their employers. In a similar way to Michael Jackson, overcoming the burden of the cultural norms (“social facts”) allows employees to willingly add more value to the business they work for.
