xHamster’s Annual Trend Report Sees Women, Censorship Dramatically Reshaping Adult Industry

According to xHamster’s recently released trend report, a massive rise in viewership by women coupled with a dramatic uptick in global censorship will reshape the adult industry in 2019 and beyond.

Per press released by the company, xHamster reportedly went through data from nearly 15 billion visits to its site in order to understand ways in which the industry is changing, for both producers and consumers. Presumably, the adult industry is in the midst of a global realignment. How content is made, produced, consumed and distributed are all being impacted.

“This is a watershed year for both the business and the consumer,” said xHamster VP Alex Hawkins.

One key conclusion had to do with women.

“Last year, we predicted 2018 would be the Year of the Woman and even went so far as to launch a fund to encourage women directors,” Hawkins shared.

“[I]t wasn’t until we looked at the data that we realized we’d underestimated women. In the past year alone, female viewership surged 41.9 percent in the US, and 12.3 percent globally. That, in turn, created major shifts in how and what was consumed — and what will get made. We see these trends accelerating in the coming years like climate change, getting more unpredictable and more powerful.”

Other conclusions of the report include:

Women will make up over 30 percent of adult consumers worldwide in 2019

Global censorship efforts are threatening to constrict adult business in ways previously unimagined.

As sites disappear and demographics shift, millennials are finally comprehending paying for porn

Barcelona is set to overtake Los Angeles and Miami as a global porn capital

“In 2019, we will see many of the trends of the past few years — rising women, increased censorship, aging millennials and shifting international politics — finally have an effect on the porn industry. For the past decade, we’ve been in a sort of holding pattern, but we see the dams breaking this year,” Hawkins explained.

A seventeen-page summary report details various aspects of the adult industry with graphs, charts and projections is available here.

In an effort to explore the summary conclusions more closely, YNOT has reached out to xHamster for access to the data itself.
