YNOT’s Ten Most-Read Stories of 2018

Yesterday, we ran a post which listed the top ten adult entertainment-related stories of 2018. On the second day of the new year, we turn from the subjective to the objective to present YNOT’s ten most-read YNOT articles of 2018.

Some of the topics addressed in yesterday’s top ten list are reflected in our most-read articles as well. But what the top of today’s list demonstrates is no matter how significant or intriguing a legal, political or tech news topic may have been, when it came to generating views on YNOT in 2018, there was simply no competing with profiles of compelling, popular adult performers.

#10: Kink Liquidation “Not Your Grandma’s Estate Sale” – Coincidentally enough, our tenth most-read story of 2018 relates to number 10 from our top stories list: Kink’s sale of the Mission District Armory. In the case of the most-read story though, the news wasn’t the sale of the building, but the sale of things which used to reside within it – like a “human hamster wheel” and vintage gynecological examination chairs.

#9: Nica Noelle, Others Sued by Martha’s Vineyard Homeowner for Unauthorized Shoot – Briefly a subject of much reporting in the mainstream media, the lawsuit at issue in our ninth most-read story of 2018 is ongoing. Referred to a magistrate judge in late November, the latest filing in the case was a joint status report filed by the parties on December 27, in which the parties continued to spar over discovery -related issues.

#8: Brittany Benz, Leo West Take Top Honors at YNOT Cam Awards – Reflecting the great interest and buzz generated by the first annual YNOT Cam Awards, the year’s eighth most-read YNOT article was the one which reported the award winners for the very well-received event.

#7: Another ‘Trafficking’ Bill Which Could Impact Adult Heads to the Senate – While the “End Banking for Human Traffickers Act of 2018” sailed through the House in a 408-2 vote, the measure has yet to be voted on in the Senate, where it is also expected to have broad bipartisan support.

#6: TrafficStars Moves to Eliminate Blind Clicks from Native Advertising – TrafficStars’ announcement that it had upgraded its technology to “completely eradicate blind clicks” chimes in at number six on our countdown. Somewhere, old-school webmasters who spent hours dreaming up text-link hooks like “Click Here for Brittany Spears leaked XXX vid” are smiling with a sense of nostalgia…

#5: Adult Company Explains How Risky Rebrand Paid Off – A very worthwhile read, our interview with Steven Grooby about his company’s comprehensive effort to rebrand his company’s products in a decidedly trans-positive way lands at number 5 on the most-read list. Grooby’s example clearly demonstrates not only that some adult businesses are receptive to constructive criticism, but that change can be a good thing – even when it requires leaving behind popular, widely-recognized brand names.

#4: Model Mayhem Joins the Adult Industry Discrimination Pool – Model Mayhem never allowed people to recruit for adult content-production purposes. Who knew they’d also shut down adult performer accounts for trying to find models for non-adult projects too?

#3: Natasha Nice: When Sexual Fire and Freedom Meet – Amber Gold’s Q&A with Natasha Nice was a revealing look at how Natasha got her start in porn, why she took some time off and what brought her back to performing again.

#2: I AM ANGELA: An Accurate Rendering of the Real Angela White – Part of what is so impressive about Angela White’s Q&A appearing at #2 in our most-read article list is the fact it was published on December 22, meaning the article racked up its views in the course of just 10 days. It’s a result that speaks to just how popular Angela is – and when you read the interview, the source of that popularity is no mystery. Beauty, intelligence, eloquence and an open, inquisitive mind – Angela has them all in spades.

#1: When Life Resembles Art: Kendra Sunderland Rebrands Her Real Life – The top spot in our most-read stories of 2018 countdown was captured by an intriguing interview with Kendra Sunderland. In it, Kendra talks about her decision to leave porn and return to school, working with director Greg Lansky and her animal rights activism, among other things. It all makes clear there’s a lot more to the woman who was once derisively referred to as “Library Girl” than many people had assumed.
