Review: New 'Goddess In The Nude' Mag Supports Sex Workers

There's a new comic/magazine (as opposed to a comic magazine) on the market these days. It's called Goddess In The Nude, or "G.I.N." for short, and it's got a little bit of everything that will probably be of interest to those who like sex positivity, comic heroines, glamour shots of women and even a couple of articles about the history of stripping. After a couple of ads, readers will first see the first 30-page chapter of a graphic story about temple prostitution which takes place on a "parallel Earth" that, from the illustration, looks an awful lot like the Earth we all know—except it's divided into two main warring factions: the Kingdom of Erom (based in what we would call Antarctica and Australia) and the Kingdom of El Sumer, whose capital appears to be in what we'd call Iran, and is made up of the continents of Africa and North and South America. From that beginning, readers will find lots of palace intrigue, nude priestess initiations, occult powers ... and spaceships. (Hey, we said it's a parallel Earth.) Finally, on page 35, one finds the table of contents—and the magazine's creators: Editor Derrick "Hawk" Davis, Layout Designer Stacy Hummel and "Guest Writer" Yasmeen, who contributes a sexy serialized story and a poem—but immediately following are the pin-ups most readers will be looking for: cute gals in bras and panties (and sometimes less)—and an ad from the Sex Worker Outreach Project on how to become a pen-pal for prostitutes who've been imprisoned! There's also an ad for the Black Sex Workers Collective seeking donations to their education/healthcare/legal fund. But frankly, the things we found most interesting (what can we say? We're jaded) were the two articles by Davis, "Origin of Pole Dancing," which traces the art back to ancient India, and "Temple Dancers As the Origin of Strippers," which deals with the erotic activities of Egyptian priestesses. And of course we shouldn't forget to mention that the magazine also has an online store, GINHolyDen.com, where one can buy all sorts of sex toys, lubes, BDSM equipment and the like, all thanks (apparently) to something called Birdman's Mounds, LLC.  Anyway, Goddess In The Nude is a trip and a half, and well worth checking out, if for no other reason than that we haven't seen anything like it—ever.
