PlayStation 4 Is Most Popular Gaming Console for Porn

CYBERSPACE—If you watch porn using your video game console, chances are you’re using a Sony PlayStation 4—because according to newly released stats from Pornhub’s data division,  the PS4 is the most popular platform for viewing adult video. And not by a little, but by a lot. In fact, though this may not be a fact that Sony touts in its advertising or press materials, the PlayStation commands a whopping 56 percent of the video game console porn viewership. And actually, Playstation accounted for even more porn consumption than that number, with the handheld Playstation Vita accounting for another five percent. The PS4’s closest competitor, Microsoft’s XBox, garnered 32 percent of porn-watching use. Three different Nintendo models, the WiiU, Wii and 3DS made up only seven percent of the porn market, combined. But the Nintendo 3DS showed the biggest jump in porn market share, with a leap of 110 percent, though the handheld device was used to view only 1 percent of all porn watched on video game consoles, according to the Pornhub research. PlayStation porn traffic notched upward by 6 percent, a jump likely spurred by the popularity of PlayStation VR (Virtual Reality), according to the PlayStation Universe video game news site.  That increase comes despite the fact that, as AVN.com reported earlier this week, Sony and the other big tech firms that manufacture VR headsets necessary for viewing video in the virtual reality format have actively attempted to prevent their users from accessing VR porn—blocking apps that make VR porn content easy and convenient to watch. However, as PlayStation Universe reported in 2017, an app called LittlStar—though not designed specifically for porn—makes porn viewing on the PS4 possible in full virtual reality, in other words, in 3D and 360 degree video for a fully immersive experience. The site posted step-by-step instructions for using LittlStar to view VR porn on the PlayStation at this link. Without the app, VR porn can be viewed  in 360 degree video, but in only two dimensions like any other non-VR video. The site VRPorn.com, a creator of virtual reality adult content, posted instructions for viewing porn content on the PlayStation, though mostly in two dimensions, at this link. Pornhub’s data applies only to porn viewing through the Pornhub site, though with Pornhub itself boasting 2.85 billion visits in 2017, its stats appear likely to reflect those for the industry as a whole.
