Former Gay Performer David ‘Francisco’ Meza Sentenced to Life

SAN DIEGO—David Enrique Meza, a former gay performer who used the name Francisco,  on Monday learned his fate following his conviction of the murder of his wealthy Texas Boyfriend. The 27-year-old Meza was sentenced to life in prison for what the judge called “heinous” actions and an “inhumane, depraved act.” Authorities said in May 2015 Meza slit the throat of his boyfriend, 52-year-old Texas retiree Jake Clyde Merendino, then proceeded to stab him 24 times before eventually dumping his body in a ravine near a highway outside of Rosario Beach, Mexico. Prosecutors presented evidence that Meza and his girlfriend planned the murder shortly after Merendino named Meza the heir of his estate. Meza was found guilty by a federal jury on May 2, 2017, the two-year anniversary of Merendino’s death. He was convicted of one count of interstate or foreign domestic violence resulting in murder, and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice. At post time, it was not clear in which federal prison Meza will be incarcerated. As Francisco, Meza performed for Sean Cody. He also performed for other studios and sites using the name Mario Romo.
