At Good Vibrations, #ConsentMatters

SAN FRANCISCO—Good Vibrations, the San Francisco Bay Area-based retailer that takes pride in providing trusted information, quality sex toys and books for grown-ups, has always believed that consent is an integral and critical part of sex education and should be included in all outreach and advocacy work done around sexual health. In 2014, Gov. Jerry Brown of California signed into law California Senate Bill 967, requiring California colleges to adopt rape-prevention policies that include an “affirmative consent” standard for sexual assault, the "Yes Means Yes" rule. The standard puts the responsibility on someone engaging in sexual activity to obtain an affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement from his or her partner. Located near Stanford University, Good Vibrations will host a "reception and community conversation" at their Palo Alto location on Ramona St. on July 16 from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring Kitty Stryker and hosted by Dr. Carol Queen, Good Vibrations’ Staff Sexologist. The event is free and open to the public for anyone over 18 years old. Good Vibrations believes that consent is sexy and can be part of a sex-positive and pleasure-filled life. Activist Kitty Stryker has been working tirelessly to promote and teach about consent, and now she’s creating an anthology of writings about consent culture. Those interested are invited to join her and Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist Carol Queen for useful ideas about creating a consent-based sex life as well as inspirations for action, and to meet other people in their community who care about this issue.
