Erotikaland: The Amusement Park You'll Never See in the U.S.

PIRACICABA, Brazil—If you were to design a sex-positive amusement park, what would you include? A swimming pool that caters to nudists? An erotic sculpture park with sexy statuary among the tree-lined paths? A playground with monkey bars and a water slide where nudity was okay? Bumper cars in the shapes of cocks and pussies? Erotic sideshow games? A "Train of Pleasure" featuring go-go women—and men? A theater showing porn movies (of course!) in 7D (whatever that is) and with vibrating seats? And for vendors, of course you'd want a sex toy shop or two, and stalls selling what are advertised as "aphrodisiac treats"—and how about a museum devoted to the history of sexuality? Well, all that and more is planned for Erotikaland, a sexually-oriented amusement park set to open in 2018 in Piracicaba, Brazil, about 90 miles northwest of Sao Paolo as the crow flies. The park is expected to provide 250 jobs in what is the world's eighth largest economy, and is expected to draw tourists from all over the world—which not everyone is happy about. "We cannot be known as the capital of sex," warned Matheus Erler, a member of the Christian Socialist Party and leader of the city council, whose party controls Piracicaba and is trying to block the project, as are some leaders in Sao Paolo. "We do not want to attract debauched individuals." But despite vague threats from the prudish pols, investors are continuing to fund construction of the park—and Mauro Morata, the executive in charge of the project, hopes that Erotikaland will serve a sex-educational purpose as well, including promoting condom use, though no sex activity will be allowed in the park itself. "This won’t be a place for nuns, but it's not like we're trying to recreate Sodom and Gomorrah. If attendees want to take things to another level, they can go to a nearby motel—which we will operate," Morata said with a wink. Of course, many adult producers are familiar with the sex life of Brazil. Many shoot there, and Rio de Janeiro is a Mecca for transgender surgery—and who doesn't love the annual Rio Carnivale? Despite the projected $100 admission price and the semi-remote location, the park is expected to make back its investment quickly—assuming it doesn't become a target for religious terrorists.
