Vice Explores Phthalate-Free Phalluses at Curve Novelties Plant

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Vice Media, which has done more than its fair share of thoughful articles on various adult-related stories, turned its attention to the novelty side recently when one of its reporters headed to the HQ of Curve Novelties to find out how to make a dildo. Curve, a start-up manufacturer in Southern California that has been in existence for just over a year, is led by industry veteran Patricia Ratner, who has worked on the DVD side of the business for decades, and Erica Heathman, who was an integral part of Topco Sales. Curve officially launched at ANME after spending months setting up their own in-house manufacturing to pour their own dongs and other toys in house. Heathman, the drector of operations and chief designer for Curve Novelties, points out that making products locally allows control over what ingredients and materials are being used. "We obviously went to China and toured a number of factories, and once you have a look at where most of the novelties that consumers back home are buying and putting into their bodies, it really made us question what kind of company we wanted to be,” said Heathman. “That is when we started bringing in experts to create our own molding operation in-house and be able to pour our own dongs that are made of the safest materials available to us.” Curve claims to be one of three major manufacturers pouring its own product stateside. Company reps stated that Curve's team is proud to be able to offer a product that is made in the USA. The company’s assembly line of phthalate-free phalluses intrigued the writers over at Vice, so Curve opened its doors to reporter Mitchell Sunderland to come in and make his own dildo. The story debuted on Broadly.com, which is Vice Media’s newest channel and geared toward a female demographic.
