New Developments In Love Vs. Schechter Lawsuit

LAS VEGAS—Retired performer turned talent representative Shy Love has issued a press releasing "declaring victory in her legal battle with talent representative Mark Schechter." Schechter himself, however, said that the dispute is far from over. The whole controversy started in November 2014 when Love sued Schechter, the current owner of Adult Talent Managers-LA (ATMLA),which was previously managed by Love and which Schechter bought from its owners in January of 2013, for defamation. Also named in the lawsuit were director Barrett Blade and "Does 1 through 20." The following month, Schechter countersued Love on grounds including breach of contract, fraud, unfair business practices and interference with prospective economic advantage. "After two dismissals in court the judge found no basis to the meritless counter lawsuit that Mark Schechter filed against Shy Love and dismissed it twice," the press release stated. "The judge gave Mr. Schechter a third chance to rewrite the counter lawsuit and on the last date it was due, Mr. Schechter chose not to pursue his countersuit." Schechter's take on the events differs from Love's. "It’s really sad that Shy Love believes that 'legal victories' occur after every little procedural motion in a case," Schechter told AVN. "We’ve chosen not to pursue our countersuit until after discovery is completed. The reasons are simple: There’s a shell game of entities and people with Shy Love pointing toward her husband as the person who made the financial representations and completed the sale of ATMLA. Roy Liberboim [Love's husband] seems to be the person with the answers, at least according to Shy’s deposition testimony, and we’re looking forward to depositions and further discovery." For her part, Love described Schechter's countersuit as "baseless," and noted that the only lawsuit currently on the docket is hers. "I believe at the end the truth will prevail, as it has already on the counter lawsuit," Love stated in the press release. "At present, there are numerous subpoenas pending that will provide interesting evidence," Schechter responded. "Of course, we were shocked when Shy testified under oath that she does not own VIP Connect. She’s just a consultant for the real owner of VIP Connect. That’s her testimony," he claimed. After his countersuit was filed in December, Schechter was quoted in AVN as stating, "Prior to being served with the recent ludicrous allegations, I was resolved with not pursuing my legal rights and simply continuing to run my business as I have, and enjoying the results of my efforts growing ATMLA to the status that it maintains today... I have been an avid poker player for 30 years, and every so often you're dealt a hand where you not only have the best cards, often referred to as 'Holding the Nuts,' but your opponent bets and raises into you 'All in,' and I simply respond with ... 'I call.' " "I can respond to the statement Schechter put out," Love said. "My response is, the hand is not always what you think it is, and you called and at the end, you folded." Schechter had a different viewpoint. "This game is far from over," Schechter said, "and until all cards are face up on the table, we have definitely not folded, and this case is far from either party claiming victory." Love said she will continue to pursue her suit against Schechter. "I want to thank my extremely aggressive and amazing team Beitchman & Zekian, P.C., for doing and for continuing to do an outstanding job representing me," she stated.
