Rough Cut of Brandon Ruckdashel’s 'Grinder' Screening Tomorrow

NEW YORK CITY—NewFilmmakers NY invites the public to come be a part of the filmmaking process at Anthology Film Archives on July 29, when Brandon Ruckdashel’s psychological thriller Grinder will have a "Rough Cuts" screening as a part of the NewFilmmakers NY Summer Series. This is a one night only screening and will be a great opportunity to see a film that is already starting to cause controversy. The screening will begin at 7 p.m.; admission is $6. According to the filmmaker, the film depicts Luke (Tyler Austin), an innocent teenager, in search of his sexual identity, who leaves his abusive home in the suburbs for the promise of a modeling job in New York City. There he meets Rich (Jon Fleming—Dante’s Cove, Couples Retreat), an unscrupulous model agent, and is dragged into the dark world of New York nightlife. Tim (Brandon Ruckdashel—Co-Ed Confidential, The Lair, Changing the Game), a photographer who leads a double life is engaged to a young woman (Sarah Lazar). After meeting Luke, however, Tim becomes obsessed, and tries to save Luke from his fate. "Brandon's script steers clear of camp; instead representing 'real life' gay characters who, though struggling with their orientation, are strong and never seek pity from the audience," noted publicist Bobbi Cowan. "As a post Looking (HBO) style movie, it strives to represent the gay community without the use of traditional slang (i.e., top, bottom, twink, bear) and maintains a focused plot without theatrical characterizations of drag queens or lesbians." Rough Cuts screenings are an opportunity for films to be tested in theaters before being finalized and starting their festival run. Unlike an opening there will be portions of the film which are still unfinished (i.e., color and final sound mix) and the filmmakers are open to audience reaction. Industry RSVP is appreciated to (212) 410-9404. The screening will take place at the Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10003, on July 29 at 7 p.m. Press contact: Bobbi Cowan.
