Rolling Stone Visits Internext

LOS ANGELES—Rolling Stone magazine was in Las Vegas for AVN Week, and has published a snap-shot list of impressions gleaned from the Internext trade show portion of the week, which takes place annually just prior to AEE and ANE at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. According to writer David Kushner, "We all know that the Internet was made for 'adult entertainment,' but that begs the question: who really made the 'net? The answer: this crew. Much of the infrastructure we take for granted online – streaming video, credit card processing, affiliate marketing – was either invented or popularized first so surfers could get their naughty bits." Referring to Internext as the "World Wide Web's wild-west event," Kushner offers paragraph-sized descriptions of a few of the show's highlights, including a private party at House of Slam where "heavy-breathing heavy hitters sucked down Tito's and tonics while scanning for potential models." Another party featured "midgets and strippers" that Kushner nonetheless characterized as "sad." Other show features of interest to Kushner included Cam Girls ("But the job can be injury prone. One cam-girl said she masturbates so long that she now sleeps in wrist splints."), Virtual Reality ("The wackiest innovation on the horizon?"), and an industry veteran he has crowned "The Zuckerberg of Porn," YNOT and The Best Porn founder Rick Muenyong ("Now he's launching MyPorn, which he hopes will be the iTunes to the Napster-like free sites that are cannibalizing the business.") Kushner's piece for Rolling Stone can be read here.
