Butte Porn Burglar Gets Four Years in Pokey

BUTTE, Montana—You can't help but feel a little sorry for the hapless homeless man with the penchant for breaking into people's homes to watch porn. Arrested after having perpetrated two such B&Ps (breaking & porn), 34-year-old Darwin James Bailey at first denied the charges but then changed his mind and copped a plea. "Earlier this month, as part of an agreement," reported the Montana Standard, "he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of burglary and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass to property. All parties agreed on the four-year term, according to a judgment filed in Butte district court Tuesday." The two burglaries occurred during some of Montana's coldest months. According to the article, "Court documents say Bailey broke into a Washington Street home to watch adult films and steal collectible coins in January. The homeowner became suspicious when he returned home and his bedroom television was on and displaying pornography. "At the time those charges were filed," it continued, "Bailey was already in jail for a Feb. 23 arrest. Police say he was watching porn in someone else’s Butte garage. The homeowner told police he chased Bailey, who was shoeless and wearing only bib overalls, down the street after catching him in his garage." After he was in custody, police reportedly found two porn discs in the burgled home that the residents said must have been brought by Bailey. Now, after receiving credit for 150 days served, Bailey can look forward to spending three and a half porn-less years as a guest of the Montana Department of Corrections, a pretty steep sentence for what have to be some the least violent crimes committed in Butte this year.
