Violet Blue Answer Questions for Eros.com Escorts

SAN FRANCISCO—When tech writer Violet Blue published The Smart Girl’s Guide to Privacy this spring, she knew that adult service providers were among those needed to the information most. But how best to reach them? Enter Eros.com, the world’s largest escort directory, and its blog, The Informed Provider. In an interview series with the site, Blue is applying the advice found in her book to escorts, entertainers and providers, in an attempt to help show how escorts and porn stars can keep their personal lives private. The series focuses on steps entertainers can take to make sure they aren’t accidentally connecting their professional profile with their civilian one. In the first post, Violet walks readers through a self-test that helps them find out if sensitive personal information—home addresses, legal names, etc.—is showing up places it shouldn’t. In the second, out today, she details which social media and communications services are most likely to ‘out’ adult performers to family (and fans) through privacy leaks. “Women who work in public are more likely to face online harassment than others,” says Blue. “And because entertainers often have dual personas, it’s doubly important to secure them. I wanted to use this series to raise awareness, and to talk about what can be done.” The series will run in three installments: “How Private is Your Provider Profile,” “The Two Biggest Threats to Provider Privacy — And How to Fix Them” and, this week, “A Provider’s Guide to Social Media.” In a bonus for the series, Violet also has agreed to take questions from escorts, entertainer and other providers on Eros. “Violet’s skill set is unique and we’re lucky to do this series with her,” says Katie Lee of Eros.com. “She’s incredibly well-respected on privacy issues in the tech industry, and she’s familiar with the concerns of adult service providers.
