India Supremes to Government: Block the Fu**ing Porn Sites!

INDIA—The Indian Supremes have spoken. India's government has one month in which to devise a plan to block pornographic websites from the nation’s 1.24 billion people. Good luck with that! The high court was considering a petition “filed by Indore-based advocate Kamlesh Vaswani who pleaded that although watching obscene videos is not an offence, pornographic sites should be banned as they are one of the major causes for crime against women,” according to the Times of India. According to the petition itself, “The sexual content that kids are accessing today is far more graphic, violent, brutal, deviant and destructive and has put entire society in danger so also safety threats to public order in India. "The petitioner most respectfully submits that most of the offences committed against women/girls/children are fuelled by pornography,” it continued. “The worrying issue is the severity and gravity of the images are increasing. It is a matter of serious concern that prepubescent children are being raped.” The argument was apparently successful. When the government requested more time in which to file a response, Justice Chauhan responded curtly, "Nothing, you have to do it.” This will be the second 4-week time period during which the government is supposed to devise a strategy for the national porn blockade. The petition was filed to complain about an alleged lack of progress during the first period. We’ll know in October if this latest admonition by the Supreme Court is more effective, though no matter what happens it looks as though India is hell-bent to follow its former colonial master down the rabbit hole of internet censorship.
