MyGirlFund Noticing Uptick in Female Members During Summer

LOS ANGELES—MyGirlFund.com reports that young female college students on summer break are flocking to its website. While students aged 18-22 normally comprise 25 percent of the adult social network's 6,000-plus female member base, since the academic year ended over 500 matriculating college students have joined.   MyGirlFund's Stefan Patrick says the trend suggests that young women are pursuing creative ways of earning tuition money in the face of a sluggish summer job market.  According to a recent ABC news report, only half of young adults will be able to find summer employment. Meanwhile, college tuition and student loan costs have skyrocketed.  "Members list their financial goals when they join," Patrick says, "and the new coeds are vocal about their tuition needs. One new member penned the memorable line, 'When good girls can't pay their tuition, anything can happen,' on her profile, but overall these are young women who would never consider stripping, porn or public group cam shows."  They are attracted to MyGirlFund, Patrick says, because it empowers them as autonomous economic agents in a social networking setting that is similar to mainstream sites like Facebook.  "The young women joining our site," Patrick says, "appreciate the total autonomy we grant them. They are free to set their own prices for the content and interaction they chose to provide. They work when they want to from the privacy of their own homes. They also appreciate the extra steps we take to ensure that what happens on MyGirlFund stays on MyGirlFund. We operate the site as a closed, private environment so members don't have to worry about exposure or leaked content. Our female members are comfortable and guys respond positively to confident, expressive and goal-driven women." As far as how much college students are earning on MyGirlFund, Patrick says it is a function of time and effort.  "We know that a number of young women have earned degrees, undergraduate and graduate, with the contributions they receive on MyGirlFund and that many others are able to support their families," he said. "At the very least, the new girls will be able to partially defray exorbitant tuition costs while doing what many are likely already doing on social media sites like Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram."
