Thrixxx’s Planned VRSexKit Gets the CNET Treatment

LOS ANGELES—Not getting laid at home, work, the gym, the park or anywhere? How about trying your luck in virtual space? For a cool $1,500, you’ll soon be able to have the ultimate virtual sex experience courtesy of virtual sex game producer Thrixxx, which just got some sweet coverage on CNET for its VRSexKit, which the company says should be available for purchase sometime next year. According to the CNET article, which spoke at length with Thrixxx founder Brad Abram, who said the thought behind putting together the new kit, which is basically an off-the-shelf system comprised of various components that combined will create a far more immersive experience than can be realized using Microsoft’s Kinnect, which Thrixxx has previously utilized, despite objections from Microsoft. “ThriXXX believes it should be possible for almost anyone to have a highly satisfying solo sexual encounter (though its demos seem to be geared mainly toward heterosexual men),” wrote Danieal Terdimen for CNET. “It has identified Webcams, infrared tracking sensors, speech recognition software, and smartphones from Creative Labs; 3D stereoscopic rendering technology from nVidia, cameras from Zeiss, cameras from Intel, brainwave sensors from Neurosky, haptic sex toys from Fleshlight, and many other tools that when combined let someone pretend they're getting intimate with a digital lover.” The company will also launch an Open VR Sex API that “could be instrumental in helping developers come up with interesting ways to incorporate the kit,” Abrams told CNET. He said that one possible could come in the form of sex education. "There's crazy stats about the sexual habits of young adults," he said. "They're doing a lot of stuff they shouldn't be doing, because they don't know. So maybe they can do virtual role playing, and maybe we can go...'No, don't do that, you might get' sexually transmitted diseases.” CNET also spoke with a sex/tech expert named Kyle Machulis, who all but dismissed the VRSexKit idea, saying, “No one has proved they want this [technology],” but of course they said the same thing about other ground-breaking technologies.   For more information about Thrixxx, go here.
