April Macie Named 2013 AVN Awards Host

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—AVN Media Network is pleased to announce that comedian April Macie has been named to host the 2013 AVN Awards. Macie completes the trifecta, joining adult stars Asa Akira and Jesse Jane on stage at the 30th annual awards show. Macie, a stand-up comedy headliner who travels all over the world, was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2006, has appeared on E! Entertainment, Fuel TV, HSN, Sirius and XM Radio, Bob & Tom, Access Hollywood, and was labeled an "emerging talent to watch" by the Hollywood Reporter at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in 2005. Macie is a regular guest on the Howard Stern Show, where in 2008 she was voted the “Funniest and Hottest” comedian in America. She has appeared on Showtime in the documentary I Am Comic, and in the Showtime stand-up specials Vegas Is My Oyster and Snoop Dogg Presents The Bad Girls of Comedy.Macie told AVN that she's ready to make the AVN Awards' colorful crowd laugh. "I'm really excited to host the awards," Macie said. "A lot of amazing comics have hosted in previous years, so I'll be able to join them and put my cool pants on for a night." The lineup of famously raunchy comics who have hosted the AVN Awards is sizable. Macie follows "Queen of Mean" Lisa Lampanelli, Dave Attell and Thea Vidale in recent years, and she knows the challenge of entertaining an audience that has seen—and probably done—everything.  "I really like the lineup of dirty comics the awards have had," she said. "That's usually my type of humor and I gravitate towards that; it's my sensibility."I feel like my stuff is always edgier anyway, so I'm sticking with what I do. I like to say that I empower women one dick joke at a time."  Macie has seen the awards broadcast before and called it a thrill. She plans on watching some of the ones she hasn't seen and said that she wishes she could see them all. A dashing redhead, Macie is known as one of the hottest stand-up comedians working, and we were curious, so she related to us her first experience with porn. It wasn't stealing a look at a Playboy off a magazine rack or watching scrambled cable channels; it was by accident."I remember babysitting for my Uncle John when I was six or seven," she said. "He left a tape in the VCR. I watched in amazement, and now here I am hosting the AVN Awards. He'd be proud." And of course Macie plans on doing the proper amount of research by diving into a package of nominated movies supplied by AVN."I definitely plan on doing my porn homework," she said.
