Leno Picks on Porn Star DA in Monologue Twice in Two Days

LOS ANGELES—Jay Leno is having a barrel full of fun with the Mark Suben story. Suben, you will recall, is the just re-elected Cortland County, New York district attorney who recently admitted to being a porn star in the 1970s after denying it during the campaign. He's been getting a lot of flak for lying, a little bit less for being a porn star, and now he is getting the full treatment from Leno, who decided that one joke was not enough; two over the course of two monologues would be needed. Syracuse.com took the trouble of transcribing the jokes, so with all due credit to them, we'll just copy-paste what they have: Leno said this Monday (starting at 3:57 and going to the end): "Well, I love this story. It seems a man named Mark Suben was voted district attorney in Cortland, New York. But before the election, he denied to the press about starring in porn movies. He said he never starred in a porn movie. Turns out he was a porn star back in the 1970s. But, see -- why lie about it? The guy's a lawyer and a politician? Being a porn star's the most honest thing on his resumé! That's the most decent thing." He went back at it last night (1:15 to 1:52): "A district attorney in Upstate New York by the name of Mark Suben has admitted he was a porn star in the '70s. He's now a district attorney, admitted he was a porn star. But, you know, people had their suspicions, like the law firm he worked for — Turner, Bender & Banger. That was... that's right, a little suspicious. Doesn't that sound like a bad sitcom? 'He was a porn star, now he's the DA! Coming to NBC this fall — it's The Penal Code!' Doesn't that sound like a bad sitcom?" Photo: Mark Suben campaigning.
