Mainstream Publications Show Love to Adult Pleasure Products

LOS ANGELES—Several well-known mainstream publications have written articles about the pleasure products industry lately, and in the process shown some editorial love to several manufacturers. Standard Innovation Corp. was first, when SexToyCanada.com, a popular blog inCanada, penned an insider’s look at “The genius Behind the We-Vibe.” The article features a Q&A with Sarah Bobas, marketing communications manager for the manufacturer, about everything from how the We-Vibe came to be to what men think of the We-Vibe. The entire article can be read at SexToyCanada.com. Jimmyjane was also profiled by The Atlantic in the feature “Can a better Vibrator Inspire an Age of Great American Sex?” “Sex toys have transformed into sophisticated and well-designed gadgets that take their inspiration from Apple not Hustler. But one company has a bigger hope: that a better machine could mean better sex for a repressed nation,” the article reads. With a photograph showing the innards of Jimmyjane’s Form 6 vibrator, the article focuses on company founder Ethan Imboden’s idea that people shouldn’t be so hung up on sex toys if they are designed not so much like a phallic symbol, but rather like a lifestyle accessory. "As soon as I saw past the fact that in front of me happened to be two penises fused together at the base, I realized that I was looking at the only category of consumer product that had yet to be touched by design," Imboden said in the article. "It's as if the only food that had been available was in the candy aisle, like Dum Dums and Twizzlers, where it's really just about a marketing concept and a quick rush and very little emphasis on nourishment and real enjoyment. The category had been isolated by the taboo that surrounded it. I figured, I can transcend that." The in-depth article on Imboden and Jimmyjane can be found at TheAtlantic.com. Rounding out the mainstream coverage is Liberator, which was mentioned in a USA Today article “Many Chain Stores Now Add A Toy Aisle for Adults.” The article discusses how CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Target, Walmart and more are selling vibrators on their store shelves, as well as how Trojan and Durex have braned out to make vibrators in addition to condoms. Liberator is mentioned as a company that sells “an array of paraphernalia designed to enhance the sexual experience include Liberator Bedroom Adventure Gear, which looks rather like a sexual Bed,Bathand Beyond.” The article also mentioned the popularity of the Fifty Shades trilogy, which “prominently feature a sex playroom with whips, handcuffs and other sex toys, and now websites including Pure Romance and Babeland sell Fifty Shades-inspired wares.” The complete article can be read at USAToday.com.
