Good Vibrations Seeking 'Quickies' for Indie Erotic Film Festival

SAN FRANCISCO—Got time for a "quickie?" Good Vibrations is summoning filmmakers of all stripes to submit their erotic shorts to the Indie Erotic Quickies Competition. The competition is part of Good Vibrations' annual Indie Erotic Film Festival, now in its seventh year of showcasing sexy short films from around the world. The term “erotic” is as broad as the number of people who use it, and filmmakers are invited to share shorts of any genre or orientation provided they are seven minutes or less. Finalists will be screened at the Castro Theatre on Oct. 26, where the Audience Choice Winner will receive $1,500. The deadline for submissions is June 30 and submission is free.  Good Vibrations’ Independent Erotic Film Festival was awarded SF Weekly’s "Best Place to see your (Talented and Attractive) Neighbors Naked," and last year’s crop included neighbors from New Zealand, Mexico, France, Israel, North America and beyond, exploring everything from relationship ultimatums to superhero sex. Though the definition of erotic may be broad, the time limit of seven minutes is uh, firm, and makes for a quick and frisky romp through the short and varied visions of diverse filmmakers. Selections can represent a smorgasbord of erotic delights: funny, serious, explicit, asexual, straight, queer, kinky, romantic, documentary, parody, animation, music video, or something else entirely. Indie film queen and drag celebrity extraordinaire Peaches Christ and Good Vibrations’ own Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen will welcome guests to the Quickies competition on October 26 at the Castro Theatre. The night of decadence begins with a pre-party in the mezzanine where film-goers warm up for a night of sexy cinema with live music, hot burlesque, cold cocktails, hors d’ouevres, and sexy give-aways. Those in fear of an awkward evening of TMI can rest assured that Peaches Christ and her veteran drag queen friends are on hand to bring comic relief to the unique experience of watching sex on screen with strangers. Good Vibrations film festival producer Camilla Lombard says, “Thirty-five years as the original sex-positive, female and couples-friendly adult retailer has given us a real appreciation for the diversity of human sexuality, and the Quickies film competition is a fun way to celebrate it with cinema. Creativity, originality, and humor come together for an outrageous night that everyone can enjoy.” It’s also a great kick-off to a “super sex weekend,” as the following day Good Vibrations is hosting the first annual Sex Summit, a dynamic conference on America’s sexual state of the union. The conference will examine the relationship between sex and the media, health, pop culture, and politics in a series of panels and keynote presentations by esteemed author and research scientist Debby Herbenick, award-winning journalist Brian Alexander, and sex therapist and lecturer Dr. Marty Klein in a lively and relevant day-long discussion followed by a cocktail reception at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in downtown San Francisco.
