SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—Amy Baldwin wasn’t about to let the chance to use footage from her security system go to waste. The co-owner of Pure Pleasure Shop inSanta Cruz,Calif., and her staff noticed more than $400 worth if items missing from the store last week after a man she later described as a “dready, trendy hipster” left. Using footage captured by her $300 security cameras, and the knowledge thatSanta Cruzis a “small bubble of a town,” she cobbled together a video of the man in action for local police and sought out the man on her own just two days later at the local farmers market, located three blocks from her store. Baldwinlocated the man, who was playing accordion at the market, and notified authorities.
