Picture It: New Year's Eve With Stormy Daniels & Kathy Griffin

TELEVISIONLAND—If there's one positive-but-little-recognized outcome of all the publicity that's been showered on Trump accuser/porn star Stormy Daniels, it's that she's been getting A LOT of mainstream press, and that coverage has been working subtly to accustom the Great American Public to hearing/seeing the term "porn star" without at the same time being bombarded with the usual cautions and hysterics that so often accompany the mention of that term. AVN has tried to do its part to "mainstream" Daniels' fame, suggesting that since she's made more movies, both as actress and director, than just about any ten classic Hollywood stars combined, that perhaps it's time to give Stormy her own star on Hollywood's "Walk of Fame." But AVN's suggestion pales beside the marvelous idea that was broadcast nationwide by comedienne Kathy Griffin on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last Thursday night. Kimmel, who hosted Stormy herself shortly before her lawsuit against Trump was filed, welcomed Griffin, who's had her own share of negative media coverage over the past year, and almost as soon as the redhead sat down, and after Kimmel commented that Griffin had "emerged from your cocoon like a butterfly," she declared, "They're not gonna hold me down, they're not gonna hold Stormy down, none of us." Of course, Kimmel quickly picked up on the Stormy reference, and asked Griffin about her newfound friendship with the adult actress, and Griffin told him that Stormy had come to see her at the Boston stop of her Laugh Your Head Off tour (no doubt a reference to the thing that put Griffin in such ill-repute: Her having posted a photo of herself holding a paper mache "bloody severed head" of Donald Trump), and the pair spent some time backstage getting to know each other; Griffin even snuck Stormy into her Carnegie Hall show last Tuesday, where the gals bonded in the dressing room and later in Griffin's hotel room. After the commercial break, Griffin dropped a suggestion that might just turn out to be a major mainstream bombshell. It seems that last winter, Griffin had received a greeting card from Kimmel's Aunt Chippy, lamenting the fact that Griffin, who'd been a mainstay of network New Year's Eve shows for years and was summarily barred from the event after the Trump head debacle, was no longer part of the official ball-dropping crowd—and that therefore, Aunt Chippy had decided not to watch any New Year's Eve show that didn't have Griffin MC'ing. After a prompt from Kimmel, Griffin then said, "I think Aunt Chippy inspired me, and I was thinking, 'Kathy Griffin-Stormy Daniels Live New Year's Eve'—Networks: Call us!" "I love that idea!" Kimmel exclaimed. "Right? I mean, she's obviously a very bright girl, and who knows? Pay-per-view—maybe she does ten minutes on the pole; we'd take questions—I'm telling you, I think we're on to something." "There's no way you'll embarrass her, right?" Kimmel asked. "You can't embarrass her, you can't embarrass me—it's New Year's!" Griffin retorted. Kimmel suggested they do the show live from Las Vegas—from his Aunt Chippy's living room, which Griffin seemed on board with, since it would save the cost of renting a studio. But wherever the show would take place—and let's face it, as news of this idea spreads, studios both adult and mainstream will be clamoring to offer space for it—would put anything Dick Clark and his competitors might come up with to shame, and could easily become the most-watched New Year's Eve show ever! So, adult entertainment fans, not to mention Kathy Griffin fans, why not flood Twitter with the hashtag #KathyStormyNewsYearsRockinEve? And when they find their venue, they could even invite Donald Trump on the show as a guest! Talk about your idea whose time has come...!
