Winger Tabloid Takes Cherie DeVille's Pres. Candidacy Seriously

WASHINGTON, D.C.—When AVN was covering events like U.S. Supreme Court hearings, Conservative Political Action Conferences and Values Voter Summits in D.C. in the '00s and early '10s, one of the fun parts of the job was grabbing a copy of the ultra-conservative daily Washington Examiner, a free-for-the-taking tabloid that virtually boasted that its "opinion-makers" were all conservative op-ed writers and its columns all pushed conservative points of view. But times and finances have changed, and in June of 2013, the Examiner's publisher, Philip Anschutz, dropped the daily edition in favor of expanding the Examiner's website and cutting back to a weekly print edition—and we guess that Cherie DeVille fans will just have to wait to see if the article published today on the Examiner's website will make it into the next print edition. (Hopefully, if it does, "The porn star (really) running for president" will be accompanied by a picture of the actual candidate rather than a similarly named stripper.) It was August 30, 2017 that DeVille, backed by the adult website FuckingAwesome.com, announced her run for president in 2020, choosing rapper Coolio as her running mate, and naming several adult industry personnel for positions in her administration. DeVille even created a YouTube video in which she set forth her various policy positions, including the Obamacare replacement Coolio Care. In the video, DeVille stated, "Like millions of other Americans just like you, I have had enough. I am tired of being misrepresented and I am tired of being lied to by the political leaders... We were promised a change for the better in 2016. That promise has been broken," and promising, "We will make America fucking awesome again!" Sadly, when clicking on the link in AVN's original story of the presidential run, that video is gone, leaving a screen with this message: But fact of the matter is, DeVille and Coolio expressed excellent thoughts on how America can pull itself back from the morass into which President Grab-'Em-By-The-Pussy and his cronies have sunk us—but that was ten months ago, and things have changed a bit since then. For one thing, Coolio has dropped out of the VP race, and FuckingAwesome.com has backed out of its sponsorship of her campaign as well, according to the Examiner—but that's not stopping her. "I really do believe that I can do this and that I can do this well," DeVille told the Examiner in a recent interview. "I want to be a positive voice, not just in my industry, but in the world for sex workers." Though DeVille said she leans toward libertarianism, her political hero is senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders of Vermont, a progressive Independent who ran for the Democratic ticket leading up to the 2016 election. According to the Examiner, "She wants to legalize marijuana, impose new gun control legislation, and resurrect government-mandated net neutrality"—at least two of which positions would not sit well with dyed-in-the-wool libertarians, but all of which are right out of the progressive playbook. Besides the roughly 540 scenes she's shot since entering the industry in 2012, DeVille holds a doctorate in Physical Therapy and practiced in that profession for 17 years before shooting her first scene—and between adult shoots, she still serves some clients needing help recovering from their injuries. But it's her work in porn that has energized her political ambitions. "For better or worse, I have a voice because of the job I do," she told the Examiner's Steven Nelson. "Even though, best case scenario, anyone can run for president, that’s just not how our country is set up. You either need to be in the political machine, be incredibly rich, or be in the public eye for another reason. "I would love to be the Democratic candidate; I’m just not sure how realistic it is," she added. "Who knows? Maybe things will change in a direction I’m not expecting and that will become more realistic." One of DeVille's hopes is that she can use her campaign to put a positive face on sex workers—and to denounce Trump, whose tweets she described as "so unprofessional." In the meantime, she's set up a new campaign website here, and she isn't bashful about what she hopes to accomplish as president. "In 2020, America will have the opportunity to elect a candidate for president that will actually bring REAL change, a President they can finally trust," DeVille says on the site. "Boasting an impressive educational background that includes a doctorate, America will have the chance to elect a woman who has never let anything stop her, thriving in a male dominated industry to reach the very top. "Cherie’s love and compassion for her fellow Americans has led to her Presidential run. Watching what’s gone on with our country over the last several months has brought DeVille to a point where she can’t just sit around and watch the country she loves so deeply destroyed. Cherie is kind, generous and most of all, a true leader. Deville 2020 is prepared to do what it takes to shock the world!" But let's face it: With Trump likely to be impeached within the next year, and the incredibly uncharismatic Mike Pence due to take his place, who knows where the DeVille campaign will be as the 2020 election approaches?
