GoFundMe Campaign Created For Injured Gay Star Jimmy Durano

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.—Jimmy Durano is a popular performer who began in XXX in 2010 and has worked for most of the gay companies in the business, including Channel 1 Releasing, Titan Media, All Worlds, Men.com and most of the Falcon Studios Group—but now he's facing the greatest challenge of his life: Recovering from a brain injury he suffered earlier this year. "Jimmy recently had a very serious accident that required brain surgery," wrote family friend Larry Mendelson. "This surgery was followed by over two weeks in the hospital for recovery, mostly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctors were forced to remove part of his skull during his surgery and, due to swelling in his head, they cannot immediately replace part of the skull. To keep safe he must now wear a helmet just to leave the house. Only when the swelling goes down can they replace the skull. This will require an additional surgery and recovery period." But Durano's recovery has been anything but simple. After he was released to go home, he remained in pain, and shortly afterward, he returned to the emergency room where doctors discovered an infection at the operation site, which required the placement of a catheter tube known as a PICC line, used to carry medications and nutrients, and to make blood draws easier, into one of the veins in his brain. That got him put back in the ICU, and it's unclear when he will be released. "With the multiple surgeries we hope he will be able to work in the future, but for now, he will be laid up for a very long time and the future is unknown," Mendelson wrote. "It is expected he will be in recovery for at least an additional 6 months to a year after he is released from the hospital following this second surgery, and will require at least one more surgery and recovery period after that when they replace his skull."He will not be able do any of the work he loves so much: dancing, personal appearances, scenes shoots, graphic design. While out of work the medical bills and living expenses are not stopping, nor will they during the additional surgery and hospital stay. It's not in Jimmy's optimistic nature to worry, but this time he is scared of what the future could look like." While the date of the accident hasn't been reported, Durano has been tweeting about his condition over the past month, often thanking friends for their support. "You guys are amazing for reaching out to me on social media. Love you all," he wrote on April 2. "And special thanks to all my friends that reached out to me via texts and phone calls at this scary time. Special thanks to the entire medical team, Doctors and nurses @ Desert Regional Medical Center hospital. A craniotomy is something scary to hear that you need that type of surgery. But you guys were amazing and even tho that was a very invasive surgery you guys made me feel ok and I’m happy to be home!!!!" But that didn't last, and on April 24, he informed his followers, "For those wondering how I am ... let’s say that I hit a bump on the road. I am back in the hospital. Last Saturday I went back to ER due to some complications after the stitches were removed and my headaches were worst. On Sunday I had an unexpected surgery. I’ll be here under observation till May 1st. And down the road there is one more surgery planned depending on the recovering time and once the swelling goes down. It can take up to 4-6 months." As anyone who's needed major surgery knows, medical care and extended hospital stays aren't cheap, so last Thursday, Mendelson started a GoFundMe page for Durano to help with all the expenses—which continue to mount, with Mendelson writing just yesterday, "Jimmy had another CT Scan yesterday and they found more blood and now will have to get a drain put back in today." So here's hoping Durano's friends in the adult gay community, not to mention his myriad fans, can chip in a few bucks to help their friend/idol through this difficult period.
