Team Trump Files Two Motions, Claims Daniels Violated Agreement

LOS ANGELES—According to The New York Times, new shots have been fired in the legal battle between performer/director Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump over an alleged “hush agreement” signed by Daniels shortly before the November presidential election. A story posted by White House correspondent Maggie Haberman and media columnist Jim Rutenberg reports that President Trump has claimed in court papers filed by his lawyers on Friday that Daniels “violated a confidentiality agreement at least 20 times, exposing her to damages of at least $20 million.” Trump’s lawyers filed two motions on Friday in United States District Court in California, where Daniels filed a lawsuit March 6, alleging that because Trump himself never signed their nondisclosure agreement, Daniels should no longer be silenced when it comes to discussing what happened between her and Trump. Team Trump seeks to move the case from state court to federal court. The article covers the ins and outs of the recent legal maneuvering, including a quote from Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, who accused Trump of “bullying tactics” and attempting to move the case “behind closed doors, outside of public view and scrutiny.” (Avenatti alleged earlier Friday that Daniels was “physically threatened” by Trump or his associates.) The Times further quoted Avenatti: “The fact that a sitting president is pursuing over $20 million in bogus ‘damages’ against a private citizen, who is only trying to tell the public what really happened, is truly remarkable—likely unprecedented in our history.” Like so many events of the last year-plus in Washington.
