Performer Alleges Sexual Misconduct Against 'Sex Geek'

LOS ANGELES—In a Daily Beast article published today, Kelly Shibari detailed an incident between herself and sex and relationship expert Reid Mihalko, alleging sexual misconduct against the “Sex Geek.” In the article, Shibari said roughly eight years ago she attended a workshop he offered in downtown Los Angeles, and offered to give him a ride to where he was staying so they could continue the conversation.  “As I drove him back to his friend’s place, he spent the entire time trying to figure out how to have sex with me. I kept telling him, well, I’m a sex worker and a porn performer, you can’t get this unless you pay for this and I wasn’t doing any private sessions,” Shibari is quoted in the article. “He kept hammering at it, even after we parked and I said no. He’d come up with scenarios, like what if we did a video together, or different kinds of workshops. It felt like he was coming up with workshop ideas just so he could have sex.” Shibari said she eventually relented to giving him a hand job. She said she never felt comfortable with the situation, and believes that Mihalko’s hiring her a few months later to conduct a hand sex workshop “probably negated any uncomfortable scenario that happened before.” The Daily Beast reached out to Mihalko for comment on the article. He said at the time he was likely “geeking out” and said he reached out to Shibari after she named him on a list of “bad” industry people, adding that nothing came of that interaction. “When somebody comes forward with any information, my advice is to thank them for speaking up and ask them to tell you more,” Mihalko is quoted in the article. “Treat the situation like it happened yesterday, even if it was 15 years ago. It’s not about why didn’t they speak up sooner, it’s huge that they are speaking up at all. Ask them what they need, ask how to clean up the mistakes, and how you can help to start the process of healing.” Read the complete article here.
