SXSW Panel With Rowntree, Severe, Houston Set for March 11

AUSTIN, Texas—A panel featuring adult filmmakers Angie Rowntree (Sssh.com), Dee Severe (Severe Sex Films) and Shine Louise Houston (Pink & White Productions)—and moderated by Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals—has been accepted for the South by Southwest 2018 show. “Using Explicit Sex as a Storytelling Element” is set for 3:30 p.m. March 11. The panel’s official hashtag is #sexstoryfilm. Each director on the panel represents various corners of professional erotica production. The discussion will focus on the importance of intertwining explicit sex with high production values and immersive narratives for total audience engagement. “I film sex like dialogue,” Houston said. “In the edit, I construct a succinct narrative that honestly reflects the talents’ experiences, and the sex scenes are integrated into the overall rhythm of the story.” “At its core, every story is a slice of life—and sex is central to life,” Rowntree stateaddedd. “I use sex in my films as a means of communicating things words can’t express, like music or dance. It's a way to convey emotions and sensations when words are an insufficient vehicle.” For Dee Severe, sex in film is a tool to dispel misconceptions. “I strive to show authentic BDSM lifestyles, complete with love, humor, intimacy—and explicit sex,” she said. “So much of the real emotional interaction between people occurs during sex, so why censor that?” Panelists will also discuss various social and cultural issues impacting adult content production today including safety standards, workplace ethics, representation, and common misperceptions of porn. Tweet the panelists your questions or ideas for discussion using the official hashtag #sexstoryfilm. Those attending SXSW can attend the panel in the Austin Convention Center. SXSW Film 2018 runs March 9-18. For more details about SXSW Film 2018, visit SXSW.com/film.
