Patrick Cowley’s Final Gay Porn Soundtrack Getting Reissued

SAN FRANCISCO—The final gay porn soundtrack from Disco pioneer Patrick Cowley will be reissued this fall, complete with movie stills, photos of Cowley and more. Afternooners will be reissued on vinyl on Oct. 19, which would have been Cowley’s 67th birthday. U.S. record labels Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystems have teamed up to present the final soundtrack for a trip of movies Cowley scored.  Best known as a Disco and Hi-NRG dance music composer and recoding artist, Cowley scored three gay porn movies in the late 1970s and early 1980s for John Colette’s Fox Studio. Soundtracks for School Daze and Muscle Up were reissued in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Afternooners was originally recorded in May 1982, just a few months before Cowley died of AIDS.  Cowley was more widely known for his mainstream music career, particularly his collaborations with Sylvester, which produced the hits “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” “Dance (Disco Heat)” and “Do Ya Wanna Funk.” Cowley also remixed a 15 minute and 45 seconds-long version of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” which is now a collector’s item. The reissue of Afternooners features 12 tracks, which includes bonus tracks. Copies can be pre-ordered here.
