Bruno Gmünder, Leading Publisher of Gay Media, Declares Bankruptcy

BERLIN, Germany—Bruno Gmünder, a German-based publishing house largely recognized as the world leader in LGBTQI publishing, has filed for bankruptcy. The announcement came earlier this month, and just days after it announced its largest magazine, Männer, would move to an online-only existence as opposed to a print publication. This marks the second time Bruno Gmünder filed for bankruptcy; the company declared in 2014, but found an investor at the time, Frank Zahn. Zahn worked to restructure the company, but his death in February this year sent the publishing firm into a cash crisis, according to several press reports. The company—which is best known for publishing homorerotic coffee table books and Spartacus International Gay Guide, a best-selling gay travel book—plans to continue operations as officials continue to look for investors.
