Make It Trend: #NoProp60 Twitter Blitz Underway Today

TWITTERSPHERE—Social Media is a powerful tool—and Twitter perhaps more so than any other platform. Which is precisely why adult industry stakeholders have taken to the micro-blog today in hopes of grabbing the attention of California voters who will be asked this November to decide their fate by way of the Safer Sex in Adult Film Act, aka Proposition 60. A grassroots campaign among industryites who have been actively battling Prop 60 resulted in today being staked out as "#NoProp60 Day" on Twitter, with the aim of having enough people include said hashtag in all their tweets throughout the day to make it a "trending" topic. The campaign plays hand-in-hand with outspoken performer Julia Ann's ongoing effort to provide customized "No on 60" Twitter avatars for all who request them. It's a savvy plan of attack; AIDS Healthcare Foundation may be able to afford a TV ad for its "Yes on Prop 60" campaign, but it doesn't have the support of the workers this initiative would affect, who themselves have a reach far outstripping that of any TV ad via their collective millions of Twitter followers.  As of this posting, #NoProp60 has topped 11,000 tweets. With enough continued participation over the remainder of the day, this offensive may just achieve its desired impact.
