FSC: Judge Rules to Strike False Prop 60 Endorsements From Voter Guide

SACRAMENTO—The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) reports that a California Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of two groups who filed a writ last week saying they were falsely identified as supporters of Proposition 60 in arguments for the measure submitted to the California Secretary of State for inclusion in the California voter guide. The International Entertainment Adult Union (IEAU) and the San Francisco Medical Society both maintained in the writ that bill sponsor AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) falsely listed them in its Rebuttal to Argument Against Prop 60 as having endorsed the measure. According to the FSC, today’s ruling found that both “false” endorsements should be stripped from the official voter guide that will be mailed to all voting households in California prior to the November 8 general election. “AHF didn’t get the support they needed, so they padded it with phony endorsements,” said Eric Paul Leue, campaign manager for Californians Against Worker Harassment, an FSC-sponsored political action committee formed to oppose Prop 60. “This is straight out of the AHF playbook: misrepresent the facts, and keep repeating it until people believe. It’s supremely disrespectful to both the Union and the doctors at SF Medical, and shows how far they’ll go to defend this ignorant, dangerous measure. We’re glad the court saw through it.” This news comes on the heels of the tentative finding by Superior Court Judge Timothy Frawley that some of the arguments against Prop 60 submitted by Californians Against Worker Harassment and other industry allies for inclusion in the voter guide should be allowed to remain, over the claims by former performer Derrick Burts in his own writ that they are “false and/or misleading.” Judge Frawley is expected to issue his final ruling in that case by Friday.
