Cooper Hefner Returns to Playboy as Chief Creative Officer

LOS ANGELES—Cooper Hefner, the son of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, has returned to the company as the chief creative officer less than six months after he left citing differences with leadership. In an Op-Ed published Wednesday on his website Hop.media, Cooper Hefner detailed what factors led to his decision to come back.  "My unwillingness to get on board with poor branding decisions rendered my relationship with Playboy’s prior CEO non-existent, but times have changed," Cooper wrote. With the company now under new leadership, the younger Hefner announced that Hop "will be moved under Playboy and will become one of the company’s sub-brands." "I’ll be stepping in as Playboy’s Chief Creative Officer and will participate in delivering a new Playboy, a Playboy understood by Millennials, like me," he continued. "This chapter in the company’s history will be thrilling, challenging, but so rewarding and I am incredibly grateful to be a part of the team that re-introduces a brand that remains such a substantial part of my family’s legacy." Hefner in February told Business Insider he had "taken a massive step back with Playboy." "Just due to that fact that I do not agree with the decisions and direction the company is actually going in," Cooper said at the time. "I was essentially asked to no longer participate in the board meetings because I didn't agree with his vision for the company." Playboy in October announced that it was doing away with nudity in the magazine, which had been the publication's trademark since its first issue in December, 1953.
