'Business Wars' Covers the Penthouse vs. Playboy Ad Battle

CYBERSPACE—Apple vs Microsoft. Sega vs Nintendo. Penthouse vs Playboy. History is littered with famous corporate feuds that changed the future for consumers as they knew it. Perhaps the most iconic of the—very public—corporate battles is between the Tortoise and the Hare; better known as the "Pubic" Wars of Penthouse and Playboy. In the 1980s, Playboy was the leading men's magazine in the world, selling the idea of attainable girls-next-door and fulfilling every reader's fantasy (even with their "articles"). Playboy went for nearly a decade without a competitor that could challenge its reign—until Penthouse magazine, lead by a determined Bob Guccione, came over from England and decided to attack Playboy on American soil. "Business Wars" is a new series from Jerrick Media, which seeks to highlights history's most public and brutal wars between two market competitors. The Penthouse vs. Playboy article features a series of ads, in which Penthouse magazine, at first a distant #2, went after the iconic Playboy hare. Who emerged as the victor? Watch to find out.
