LA Metro Could Learn Something From Taiwanese Transit System

LOS ANGELES—There's little dispute that the Los Angeles area is the adult entertainment (read: porn) capital of the world—but it's not as if the city has done anything to cash in on that fame. So now, if those who run the LA Metro public transit system are smart, they'll have a chance to do something about that—by following the lead of Taiwan aka the Republic of China. Next week, the EasyCard Corporation, which produces fare cards which are good for riding the island's public transit system and making purchases at some convenience stores, will release a limited-edition pair of "contactless payment" cards featuring Japanese porn star Yui Hatano in two looks: "Angel," depicting Yui smiling and dressed all in white (though that may change), and "Devil," with the actress "dressed in black and shooting a sultry gaze at the camera." "Pornography is conspicuous by its absence," noted the Reuters News Service article. The cards will sell for 500 New Taiwan Dollars per set (US$15.46), the proceeds from which will be donated to various charitable foundations. "We will issue the 'devil' edition Yui Hatano cards beginning September 1 as originally planned," EasyCard Corp said in a press release, adding that the "angel" edition will be delayed probably until mid-September, possibly with a change to the originally planned theme after the company gets "input from various parties." The company had even considered not releasing either of the cards after it had received "angry public reaction," but relented after Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je indicated that he thought that would be a bad "business judgment." Hatano herself said she was pleased with the idea. "Just because I am an adult video porn star ... does it mean that I cannot pay a debt of gratitude to my beloved Taiwan?" she said, in a statement quoted by the Focus Taiwan news website. So now, the question is: Why doesn't LA Metro consider putting some of the adult industry's more popular actresses (and actors) on its own limited-edition metro cards and sell them at a premium? Such an issuance would undoubtedly become a collector's item, not just for Los Angeles residents, but for consumers across the country, if not the entire world—most of whom would not even use whatever funds come with a card purchase, thus saving the transportation company even more money! And of course, those who do use the card will be doing their part to stave off global warming—a win-win no matter how one looks at it! So how about it, LA Metro? Give yourself and the adult industry a break and make some cash—probably a shitload of it—at the same time! Pictured: Yui Hatano's EasyCard image (left)
