Former Star Brooklyn Blue Axed From 'X Factor' Auditions

LONDON—Brooklyn Blue, a 24-year-old blonde from London, got started in the adult industry in 2013, and appeared in just 15 movies before calling it quits a year later—only to turn up last month as a potential contestant on the British TV show X Factor under her real name, Becky Constantinou. For those who don't know, X Factor is a "reality TV" show similar to American Idol, with movie/TV producer and talent scout Simon Cowell having been a judge on both, as well as several other on-screen talent shows in the UK and U.S. "The 'X Factor' of the title refers to the undefinable 'something' that makes for star quality," the show's Wikipedia entry states. "The prize is usually a recording contract, in addition to the publicity that appearance in the later stages of the show itself generates, not only for the winner but also for other highly ranked contestants." Cowell is known for his bluntness (some might say "assholishness") in describing contestants' performances, but who would have imagined that the celebrity suffers from a fear of "porn cooties"—the inability to relate to adult performers and former performers as human beings with human needs and ambitions because they've actually had sex on camera? Such was the case with Becky Constantinou, who survived three rounds of auditions for X Factor, and was "shortlisted" to come before Cowell and his panel of judges for likely inclusion in this season's televised X Factor competition—until she was outed by a show security guard. "The guard came up to me with a knowing smile and said, 'I know you from somewhere, you're that Brooklyn girl'," Constantinou told a reporter for The Sun yesterday. "A few days later, I got a call from the show makers asking if I'd done any modelling and my stage names. "It was clear I’d been grassed up [outed], but I did my best to dodge the questions," she added. "I then had a long think and decided to come clean in an email. They phoned me back to say I'm out. I'm devastated." It was a tough break for Constantinou, who'd spent thousands of pounds on singing lessons and had hoped that X Factor would be her big break into the music business. So far, no one connected with the show is talking about why Constantinou was let go—and it probably hasn't helped that most of the news articles reporting on her "firing" have blown her adult career way out of proportion, with one source claiming that Brooklyn Blue had "appeared in hundreds of adult movies," while another asserted that she had "romped on camera with 700 men and 300 women." We're well aware that the Internet Adult Film Database isn't always entirely comprehensive, especially for online scenes not on DVD, but her "curriculum vitae" on the site hardly bolsters the tabloids' claims. In any case, Constantinou was well aware of the decorum she would be expected to maintain as a contestant, saying, "I know X Factor is a family show, but porn shouldn’t define who I am. I was never going to put on a sex show for Simon." But as is so often the case, when porn cooties are involved, reality takes a vacation. Pictured, l-r: Brooklyn Blue, Becky Constantinou.
